Job Summary

The Lumber Quality Control Technician is responsible for inspecting lumber products at various stages of production to ensure they meet company standards customer specifications and applicable industry regulations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product quality reducing waste and supporting continuous improvement within lumber manufacturing operations.

Shift: 5:00pm to 3:30am


Key Responsibilities
Inspect incoming in-process and finished lumber for grade dimensions moisture content defects and overall quality
Verify compliance with company quality standards customer requirements and industry grading rules (e.g. NHLA SPIB or similar as applicable)
Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records and reports
Identify quality issues non-conforming materials and trends; communicate findings to production and leadership teams
Work closely with production staff to resolve quality concerns and prevent recurring defects
Perform moisture testing grade checks and visual inspections using appropriate tools and equipment
Assist with internal audits customer audits and corrective action processes
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality yield and efficiency
Follow all safety policies and procedures while working in a manufacturing environment

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 13 years of experience in Quality Control/Quality Assurance
  • Working knowledge of lumber grades wood defects and dimensional tolerances
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to make objective quality assessments
  • Basic computer skills for data entry reporting and documentation
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (standing walking lifting exposure to dust and noise)

Preferred:
Experience with lumber grading rules or quality standards
Certification or training in lumber inspection or quality control
Prior experience in a sawmill or wood products manufacturing facility
