To provide optimum critical/emergency care to sick or injured patients transported by aircraft or other vehicle to UMMC or other designated facilities.Education & Experience
High school diploma/GED and completion of CAHEA or CAHEP EMT-paramedic program plus three (3) years of related pre-hospital experience. Maximum weight limit of 250 pounds when fully clothed. Individual must be able to lift a patient weighing 250 pounds onto a stretcher and to carry said patient and stretcher for a minimum of fifty (50) feet and load patient and stretcher into a helicopter or other vehicle with the help of other provider.
Certifications Licenses or Registration required: valid drivers license certification as NREMTP (National Registered Paramedic) and MS Paramedic and MS Critical Care Paramedic required. Certifications in basic life support advanced cardiac life support pediatric advanced life support neonatal resuscitation NIMS (ICS 100 and 700) and either BTLS or PHTLS or ITLS. Certification in ABLS and ASLS preferred. Certification as a Louisiana NREMTP and Alabama NREMTP preferred. FP-C or CCP-C is required.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the information and techniques necessary to identify diagnose and treat injuries and disease for adult pediatric and neonatal patients. Knowledge of agents equipment procedures and techniques for the provision of emergency and critical care for inter-facility and scene transports. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to provide physical and psychological treatment and comfort. Ability to work calmly under stressful conditions. Ability to withstand exposure to noise external weather conditions and high altitudes.
Responsibilities
- Provides physical and psychological comfort to patients. Monitors patient condition during transport and adverse reactions to drugs of treatment.
- Interacts with pre-hospital and hospital personnel to ascertain the details surrounding the patient injuries or illness.
- Ensures the proper functioning in inventory of communications equipment medical transport equipment and supplies. Reports equipment failures.
- Maintains sterilizes and cleans transport medical equipment to ensure the safety of patients in accordance with UMMC standards and protocols.
- Promotes positive image of UMMC by participating in community outreach and education programs.
- Assists in precepting and orienting colleagues and healthcare students.
- Ensures regulatory compliance of patient care provided duringtransport. Prepares and maintains applicable reports and documentation.
- Evaluates plans provides and documents care for patients in the disaster transport (air/ground) and/or the out of hospital environment.
