The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to lead the delivery of culturally appropriate high-quality tenancy and property management services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers across Victoria. As the Victorian Housing Manager you will provide a culturally safe point of contact for customers work in partnership with local communities and sector stakeholders and provide a point of escalation for complex tenancy and property matters. You will also lead and mentor Housing staff to deliver customer service-centric outcomes that strengthen community connections and support ACHLs vision that First Nations people can secure appropriate affordable housing as a pathway to better lives and stronger communities.

You will:

  • Lead day-to-day tenancy and property management operations across the Victorian portfolio supporting Housing Officer/s to deliver responsive culturally safe customer service.
  • Act as a culturally appropriate point of contact for First Nations customers coordinating with support providers and providing escalation for complex matters.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Traditional Owners local communities government departments community organisations and partner agencies to improve access and equity for First Nations people in social housing.
  • Drive operational efficiencies and continuous improvement by monitoring service standards customer experience and key performance metrics and implementing improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure regulatory and contractual compliance (including Residential Tenancies requirements) and stay informed about relevant legislative and policy changes.
  • Support financial sustainability by monitoring operational expenditure maximising income opportunities and identifying efficiencies.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports for internal and external stakeholders tracking performance and program outcomes.

About You

You are a capable housing leader with demonstrated experience in community housing and a strong commitment to culturally informed service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will bring sound knowledge of tenancy and property management practice and the Residential Tenancies Act along with an understanding of the social and historical context impacting First Nations communities in Victoria. You are confident building strong partnerships with communities government and support agencies can navigate complex matters with professionalism and cultural safety and you enjoy mentoring staff and driving continuous improvement in service quality and customer experience.

Essential Criteria:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and/or accepted by and well connected within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Thorough understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues including social and historical context and ability to deliver culturally safe services.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong networks with First Nations communities agencies and partner organisations and represent the organisation in forums and consultations.
  • Minimum 3 years experience within the Community Housing Sector with an understanding of community social and/or public housing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tenancy and property management including relevant Residential Tenancies legislation and housing policy settings.
  • Experience leading mentoring and developing staff with the ability to foster a positive performance-focused team culture.
  • Demonstrated operational management skills including monitoring performance metrics implementing continuous improvement and supporting high-quality customer service delivery.
  • Sound judgement and commitment to regulatory contractual governance and quality assurance requirements including risk identification and mitigation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare accurate and timely reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Current Drivers Licence and capacity to travel as required.
  • Satisfactory Police Check and Working with Children Check (and any other role-required screening).
