Programs and supports are designed to build new skills to foster healthy productive lifestyles and to improve access to services within our community. Services are low-barrier all-inclusive and at no cost to participants. Annually we provide services to over 2500 individuals and families.


The Opportunity

We are looking for a high energy and motivated Early Childhood Educator to join our 0-6 team. The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) supports the Family Place drop-in program delivered at the Family Place site. This role works collaboratively with the Program Coordinator to ensure the effective integration and delivery of Family Resource Programs.


The ideal candidate will have worked as Early Childhood Educator preferably in the not-for-profit sector for a minimum of one year. We are looking for a high energy can do person who thrives in a fast paced environment and can handle changing priorities with ease and work well independently.

HOURS OF WORK: Permanent full- time at 28 hours per week
SALARY RANGE: Wage Grid 10: $26.83 - $29.76 hourly (depending on education qualifications and experience)

Some Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plans carries out and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children and their parents/caregivers in a drop-in setting using modelling observing questioning demonstrating and reinforcing techniques.
Create a safe welcoming inclusive and supportive environment that encourages family engagement and participation.
Communicates with families about childrens growth and development. Requests input from and participation of parents in the development of programs. Confers with parents with regard to unusual or problematic issues.
Support childrens early learning and development through play-based hands-on and interactive experiences.
Provides work direction and support to early childhood educator assistants as required.
Provide parents with resources on child development parenting strategies and community resources.
Foster positive relationships with families encouraging connection and community building.
Contribute to planning and delivering engaging programming that reflects the interests and needs of families attending the program.
Maintains a clean safe and well-presented environment by ensuring all areas are sanitary visually appealing and free from hazards or safety risks.
Ensures parent/child interactions through the provision of circle time and other various activities.
Network with other community resources as required.



Qualifications:
1. Education and Knowledge
ECE certification or 2 year diploma


2. Training and Experience
One (1) year recent related experience
Valid First Aid certificate


3. Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Effective problem-solving conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
Ability to be flexible resourceful and possess good time management skills.
Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity including lifting and bending.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles of care.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts pertinent regulations policy procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
Effective listening and consensus building skills that promote communication and a cooperative approach to problem solving and decision making.
Ability to work effectively with others in a multicultural environment independently and as part of a team including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines.
Ability to maintain professional integrity boundaries and confidentiality.
Ability to make effective referrals in a collaborative manner reflecting in-depth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners.
Knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing underrepresented groups including 2SLGBTQIA and Indigenous youth and young adults.
Knowledge and respect of the diversity of the BC population.

Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Drivers license have a reliable vehicle Business Insurance and acceptable drivers abstract. (mileage paid for work use)
Must possess a working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Word/Excel)
Police Information Check including vulnerable sector check
