Title: School and Out-of-School Programs Assistant

Position Summary Gain hands-on experience in museum and green careers while supporting summer partnership programs and the NYBG Field Science Camp. This position assists educators in delivering career-connected outdoor learning experiences that explore the New York Botanical Gardens mission the historical ecology of the Bronx and the Bronx River Watershed.
Participants will work alongside educators scientists and peers to help lead middle and high school students in immersive learning experiences across the Gardens streams forests trails and laboratories. Activities include plant surveys and invasive plant management water quality testing outdoor science investigations and nature-based games that build skills related to local climate action and environmental careers.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities - Assist educators with the implementation of summer partnership programs and NYBG Field Science Camp programming focused on the Gardens mission and the historical ecology of the Bronx and the Bronx River watershed.
- Support preparation set-up and clean-up of materials for science-based outdoor learning activities.
- Assist with leading groups of up to 18 middle and high school students in career-connected explorations of Bronx River Watershed streams forest and trails across 250 acres.
- Support experiential learning activities including science journaling water quality testing nature-based games and phenomena-based science investigations under educator supervision.
- Foster a welcoming engaging and supportive learning environment by building supportive relationships with campers and Camp Educators.
- Share enthusiasm for science nature museum learning and green career pathways with participants.
- Participate fully in pre-camp training and activity preparation.

Qualifications - Outgoing friendly personality with excellent oral communications skills.
- Comfortable and enthusiastic working with children and youth in outdoor and informal learning environments.
- Responsible punctual professional motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated interest in museum education science nature environmental studies and/or green career pathways.
- Foreign language skills are helpful but not required

Physical Demand & Work Environment - While performing the duties of this position the employee is required to at minimum work outdoors in all weather conditions in all seasons stand sit crouch kneel and walk.

Program Dates & Availability - This is a temporary full time role.
- Required Training & Orientation:
- June 22 July 2 2026 9a.m. 5 p.m.
- Camp Program Dates:
- July 6 -July 17 (NYCPS High School Program)
- July 21 July 24 (GEAR UP Middle School)
- August 3 August 21 (NYBG Field Science Camp for Middle School)
- Schedule: 8 a.m. 4 p.m.
