Job Summary:
The MS Girls Volleyball Coach is responsible for leading practices and coaching MS Girls Volleyball during the season. This role supports the athletic and personal development of student-athletes by promoting teamwork skill-building and sportsmanship in a positive and inclusive environment. The position collaborates closely with the Athletics and After-School department to align with school values and ensure a safe engaging experience for all participants.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Plans and leads all volleyball practices for the middle school girls teaching age-appropriate volleyball fundamentals techniques and strategies.
- Coaches all scheduled games including travel to away games while positively representing St. Thomas School.
- Promotes sportsmanship teamwork and individual skill development and supports player growth aligned with program expectations and core competencies.
- Ensures the safety supervision and well-being of all student-athletes.
- Communicates clearly with players families and the school community about schedules expectations and team progress.
- Partners with the Director of Athletics and After-School Programs to support program goals and team culture.
- Manages equipment as well as oversees set up and cleanup for practices and games.
- Upholds and models the mission values and strategic priorities of STS.
- Demonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
- Adheres to school policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and After-School Programs.
Qualifications
Requirements and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in education coaching or a related field preferred.
- 1 years of experience coaching volleyball or equivalent playing experience preferably with Middle Schoolage students.
- Knowledge of youth athletic development including age-appropriate skill building and sportsmanship.
- Demonstrated ability to create a positive inclusive and supportive team environment.
- Ability to actively supervise student-athletes both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physical ability to meet the demands of the role including lifting up to 50 pounds and engaging in activities such as bending crouching or sitting on the ground.
- Readiness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and maintain throughout employment
- Successful completion of required background checks in accordance with school policy and state regulations.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative flexible and growth-oriented mindset.
- Proficiency with basic technology tools and a willingness to learn school-specific systems.
- Commitment to the mission values and community of STS.
