Job Goal(s):
The primary job role of the Diagnostic Consultant is to serve as a member of a multidisciplinary evaluation team. As a team member they will assist in the comprehensive academic achievement assessment of students suspected of having a disability as well as help in the process of identifying effective interventions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Masters degree required. Candidates with a Bachelors degree who are willing to pursue a masters degree may also be considered.
Certification:
Candidates must possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate which includes an early childhood endorsement and also an endorsement in at least one area of special education.
Work Experience:
Minimum of three years of successful teaching or ancillary experience.
Skills:
Knowledge and experience using a variety of academic assessments for students birth to five years
Ability to provide consultation and coaching
Ability to provide training and to assist with the implementation of interventions in both the general education and special education setting
Possess well-developed professional writing skills
Ability to understand the perspective from several points of view (superintendent ISD vs LEA building principal special education teacher general education teacher support staff and parent)
Possess qualities that contribute to strong team cohesiveness
Possess ability to navigate a variety of technological platforms
Essential Job Functions:
Use a variety of academic assessments/evaluations/observations to help aid the multidisciplinary team in determining eligibility for special education programs and services
Provide an analysis and interpretation of information and data in oral/written reports
Collaborate with all parties to provide teacher consultant services to students in a variety of small/large group settings around the county
Interpret diagnostic findings to parents and team members in a user friendly format
Provide information including possible ideas for goals/objectives to address needs
Assist staff in the development of academic and behavioral interventions
Demonstrate understanding of logic and application of an MTSS model
Consult with all parties on data collection and analysis
Use data-based decision making to lead a problem solving model.
Participate in IEP meetings for students
Assist in the alignment of goals and objectives from the LEA/ISD team process to meet student needs
Exhibit a high level of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information.
Demonstrate regular and reliable in-person attendance
Drive throughout the county to perform evaluations and direct services for students
General Responsibilities:
Adhere to policies and procedures of the Van Buren ISD
Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
Demonstrate the VBISD principles of Respect Integrity Compassion and Excellence
Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent or director/supervisor of special education.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
