Job Summary
The Department of Biomedical and Translational Sciences (BTS) at Cornell University is a newly established multidisciplinary department formed in 2026 through the merger of Biomedical Sciences and Molecular Medicine. This position supports research operations across two labs contributing to both laboratory management and hands-on scientific work. The role offers a unique opportunity to engage in diverse research activities including cell culture animal work and general lab operations within a collaborative academic environment.
The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Dongre Lab
Coordinate lab operations: inventory tracking ordering (Excel) receiving packages and maintaining overall lab organization
Support research & animal work: rodent husbandry (breeding weaning culling) tissue prep for histology basic cell line maintenance & mycoplasma testing
Maintain facilities & compliance: autoclaving waste disposal equipment upkeep (incubators LN₂ water baths) stocking supplies enforcing safety protocols
Simmons Lab
Manage lab operations: inventory/database coordination ordering receiving packages and core facility tasks (autoclaving waste LN₂ equipment maintenance)
Lead cell culture work: maintain cancer/primary cell lines monitor health & contamination plate cells and track activity in a daily database (includes occasional weekend work)
Support experiments: prepare media/buffers set up reagents and instruments and assist with basic assays (e.g. immunoblotting ELISA BCA)
Required Qualifications
High School Diplomaand up to 2 years relevant experienceworking in a research laboratoryor equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficiency in basic lab techniques and principles of molecular biology.
Prior experience with mammalian tissue culture.
Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail.
Proficiency in basic computer skills.
Successful completion of Cornell training courses (i.e. animal care and use chemical safety) if not already completed.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree in biology or related field
Prior experience with mouse work required.
Experience with administering mouse injections.
Important Details about the Position
This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
This is a full-time one-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.
Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business requiring employees to work early mornings evenings weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
