Multimedia support specialist
Job Summary

We are looking for a Multimedia Support Specialist to be responsible for day-to-day support for multimedia staff and systems primarily focussing on hardware and software used for producing video and audio at the Guardian globally. The role works closely with editorial and technology teams to ensure Guardian multimedia facilities are technically reliable operationally efficient and ready to support fast-paced creative teams working across video audio and digital platforms.
In this role you will
Software and Hardware Support
- Act as a subject matter expert for a suite of multimedia applications on macOS including Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Premiere & After Effects) REAPER iZotope RX Iconik and LucidLink. Resolve issues where possible or document and escalate as appropriate.
- Ensure a standard operating environment across multimedia IT assets using Jamf Pro.
- Support a geographically distributed team through a variety of communication mediums including ticketing systems email video/telephone calls instant messaging and screen sharing/remote control.
- Manage equipment lifecycles for multimedia Mac hardware including new builds replacements and decommissioning.
Studio Operations & Equipment Management
- Be the primary technical point of contact for configuration and troubleshooting of networked cameras audio equipment lighting rigs recording systems & computers offices in multiple locations ensuring the studios are fully functional and production ready at all times.
- Act as the point of contact for studio users resolving technical or operational issues quickly and calmly.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot audio video and lighting issues in live or recorded sessions.
- Ensure consistent studio standards and optimisation for video and audio production.
- Work with other internal teams or external suppliers on repairs upgrades and system integrations.
- Maintain accurate inventories of all studio equipment consumables and field recording kits in both audio and video.
- Support planning and management of equipment lifecycle including upgrades and preventative maintenance.
Production Support & Workflow
- Provide hands-on technical support during recordings including studio setup mic placement and camera configuration.
- Support presenters and production teams with best practice guidance for audio and video quality.
- Contribute to improving production workflows templates and technical documentation.
Health Safety & Compliance
- Ensure studios comply with health and safety standards including electrical safety manual handling and safe working practices.
- Support risk assessments and safe working practices for studio environments.
- Ensure all users are trained in safe and appropriate use of studio facilities.
Team Collaboration & Training
- Work closely with editorial and technical teams to understand evolving content needs.
- Train producers and presenters in studio workflows and equipment use encouraging consistent high-quality production standards.
- Work collaboratively with the IT & Operations teams on supporting systems and facilities.
- Assist with AV aspects of occasional internal events such as Town Halls and other all-staff meetings.
- Assist IT team with addressing 1st line tickets when capacity permits.
- Develop and maintain an internal knowledgebase for multimedia systems and processes.
Team Co-operation
- Work closely with Multimedia Support/Studio roles globally (currently UK and USA) contributing to consistent operational excellence and technology standards across physical studio locations (UK Australia USA) where possible.
- Possible after-hours calls during UK working hours.
- Occasional travel to Melbourne and Canberra offices when an on-site presence is required.

Knowledge & experience
Essential
- Proven experience with professional audio and/or video studios in a broadcast podcast or digital media environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Audio recording and mixing
- Video production and camera systems
- Lighting for studio environments
- Excellent troubleshooting skills under time pressure.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience supporting multiple studios or high-volume production schedules.
- Intermediate technical knowledge of macOS
- Experience working with Jamf Pro (or equivalent MDM product)
- Experience working in a newsroom or fast-paced editorial environment.
- Knowledge of live streaming or remote recording workflows.
- Familiarity with accessibility captioning or audio quality standards.
- Formal work health & safety training or qualifications
