Skillsource is seeking an experienced GIS Professional on behalf of a public sector client. The successful contractor will work closely with data management teams providing specialist GIS support across a range of heritage archaeological and architectural data projects.
This is a handson deliveryfocused role supporting the maintenance enhancement analysis and dissemination of spatial datasets critical to national heritage protection and policy development.
Key Responsibilities
The GIS Professional will be responsible for:
- Providing daytoday GIS support to the teams in line with agreed work programmes
- Managing maintaining and enhancing spatial datasets relating to monuments archaeological sites and architectural heritage
- Supporting the integration validation and quality assurance of GIS and attribute data
- Producing maps spatial analyses and GIS outputs to support internal stakeholders policy development and statutory functions
- Assisting with data migration system upgrades and process improvements within GIS environments
- Supporting the publication and sharing of spatial data including preparation of datasets for internal and external use
- Collaborating with data managers archaeologists architects and policy staff to ensure GIS outputs meet operational and regulatory needs
- Ensuring all work complies with public sector data standards governance and security requirements
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven professional experience working in a GIS role preferably within the public sector or a regulated environment
- Strong practical experience with GIS software (e.g. Esri ArcGIS suite and/or QGIS)
- Experience managing and maintaining spatial databases and datasets
- Strong understanding of spatial data standards metadata and data quality principles
- Experience producing maps reports and spatial analyses for nontechnical stakeholders
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable
- Experience working with heritage archaeological architectural environmental or planning datasets
- Familiarity with public sector GIS environments governance or statutory reporting requirements
- Experience supporting data publication or open data initiatives
- Knowledge of spatial data integration with enterprise systems
Education & Professional Background
- Degree (or equivalent) in GIS Geomatics Geography Spatial Data Science or a related discipline
- Relevant professional certifications or continued professional development in GIS are advantageous
Working Arrangements
- Fulltime contract Monday to Friday 220-days approx. 11 months.
- Working arrangements (onsite / hybrid / remote) to align with public sector requirements
- Engagement subject to standard public sector compliance including vetting where applicable
