F5 Engineer Remote 6-month contract
Pay rate: $60 - $65/hr on W2
Overview: Operations-focused engineers are responsible for supporting troubleshooting and safely executing changes on enterprise F5 load balancing platforms and related network/security services. Key Responsibilities: Troubleshoot complex F5 issues using a structured approach (data collection hypothesis testing validation) and clearly document steps and outcomes. Support and manage high-availability and failover scenarios including planned failovers and incident-driven failovers involving load balancers firewalls and DNS/IPAM services (e.g. Infoblox). Validate health monitoring and failure-detection mechanisms (e.g. node/link/switch failures pool member health routing reachability) and confirm expected failover behavior. Lead or support incident response for service-impacting events; drive mitigation restoration and handoff communications. Perform risk-assessed changes in production (e.g. maintenance events migrations tuning) following standards change controls and rollback plans. Troubleshoot application connectivity to VIPs and traffic-flow issues across load balancers and firewalls; identify relevant configuration parameters and verify end-to-end behavior. Partner with network security and application teams to assess downstream impacts of changes and prevent regressions across interconnected systems. Required Qualifications: Strong hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting F5 (BIG-IP) in enterprise environments with the ability to explain real incidents and the mechanisms involved. Proven operations background supporting production environments (beyond basic service onboarding/configuration). Demonstrated experience troubleshooting VIP reachability and traffic not passing as expected including L3/L4/L7 troubleshooting fundamentals. Experience with HA concepts failover orchestration and validation of successful failover. Comfort working within defined standards and acceptable risk boundaries while maintaining a proactive analytical mindset. Strong written and verbal communication skills including incident and change communications. Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting adjacent technologies such as Cisco routing/switching Fortinet firewalls Zscaler and DNS/IPAM (e.g. Infoblox). Experience leading high-severity incidents and driving root cause analysis (RCA) and problem management. Relevant certifications (e.g. CCNP or equivalent) are a plus. Working Conditions: May participate in on-call rotation and support 24x7 operations in a global environment as needed. Core Competencies: Deep troubleshooting mindset: able to isolate issues across client network load balancer and application layers. Failover expertise: understands how health checks state synchronization and upstream/downstream dependencies influence outcomes. Proactive and safety-first: anticipates blast radius validates changes and uses clear go/no-go criteria. Systems thinking -sees the bigger picture and understands how changes in one area can impact other services. Occasional onsite work and weekend/after-hours maintenance windows may be required.
