About the role

We are looking foraSenior Electrical Engineer(Underground)for the Underground Operations who will be responsible forsupporting the underground operations Drainage Gallery beneath the Bingham Canyon surface mine surface electrical and underground technology and communications. The Senior Electrical Engineer (underground) provides safe Best for Project solutions for underground operations while ensuring safety and operational compliance for all electrical engineering deliverables.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced and engaged professional towork collaboratively with all operational and functional departments.

Reporting to the Underground AM Manager and working with the Underground Operations you will be responsible for

  • Understanding following or using Kennecott standards including specifications design basis and criteria templates design calculations and guides workflow procedures engineering standards and project controls forms etc
  • Contributions to the maintenance and development of departmental standards as assigned ensuring conformance with current codes standards and regulations
  • Selecting electrical equipment and designing electrical circuits and network systems completing all necessary calculations to ensure compliance with codes standards regulations special industry guidelines and company standards
  • Participating in design reviews addressing electrical and other concerns and collaborating with Project Services to ensure that facilities will be built in the safest most efficient and cost-effective manner possible
  • At various project phases participate in risk assessments identifying and mitigating risks that are deemed to be unacceptable
  • At various project phases complete timely reviews of drawings collaborating with other disciplines project managers project services operations groups and designers to supportthe operations operability and construction requirements
  • During construction assess and provide technical recommendations in response to field inquiries
  • Monitoring and reporting on contractor performance within the Underground Mine.
  • Interfacing with the contractor on engineering processes;
  • Staying abreast of open pit planning and operations and interfacing with surface operations regarding electrical supply to the underground areas;
  • Being available to provide knowledge and service as required to resolve issues or address concerns related to electrical reticulation radio and communications networks;
  • Expanding position-relevant knowledge and skills through continuing self-directed or employer-sponsored professional development.

Leading other electrical team members through their roles and responsibilities.

What youll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and team members
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant electrical experience;
  • Knowledge of underground mine engineering practices safety regulations and standards ventilation and mine services;
  • Knowledge of project management practices including budgeting;
  • Strong planning organizational management and communications skills;
  • Effectively present to a variety of groups including technical professional business and community groups;
  • Knowledge and skills with AutoCAD/Deswik/VulcanAutoCAD Electrical Navisworks ETAP SKM Automine or other recognized electrical analysis software MS Office Suite MS Project.
  • Knowledge of fiber-optic ethernet and Wi-Fi networks supporting the underground communications system will be an asset

Where youll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class fully integrated copper mining operation including a concentrator smelter and refinery located just outside Salt Lake City Utah in the United States. We produce copper precious metals including gold and silver molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.

The Underground Mine comprised of roughly 40000 feet of development that lie beneath the Bingham Canyon open pit mine producing ore and providing depressurization for the high walls of the pit. The underground drainage galleries are responsible for removal and pumping of roughly 1.3 million gallons of water per day and are critical to controlling water impacts on the development of the open pit and underground mine. Underground production commenced in 2023 with future studies and expansions underway.
