This is a Level 4 position. However if there are no appropriate Level 4 applicants applications from Level 3 will be considered. The selection criteria reflects the requirements for a Level 4 applicant. Responses from Level 3 applicants need to demonstrate their level of competence with regard to the same criteria and their ability to work towards Level 4. The expected performance of the incumbent will be commensurate with his/her years of experience and current level at commencement of appointment. The incumbent will work towards meeting the criteria for Level 4.
About the Role:
As a New Street counsellor you will deliver counselling and assessment services to children young people 1017 who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours and support their families and caregivers. The service works closely with young people and their parents or care providers to address behaviours early with a strong focus on improving safety wellbeing and long-term outcomes.

New Street delivers evidence-based trauma-informed practice supporting young people at a critical point in their lives and helping to create safer futures for them their families and their communities.
New Street operates across two sites Newcastle and Tamworth providing outreach across the district. The multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to deliver high-quality care.
Youll be connected to a statewide network of New Street clinicians giving you access to a broader community of practice shared expertise and ongoing collaboration. Professional development is a strong focus with opportunities to build your skills through the Children and Young People Sexual Safety Program at Sydney Childrens Hospital Network. Youll also benefit from dedicated supervision with experienced New Street clinicians who specialise in problematic harmful sexual behaviours (PHSB) ensuring you receive tailored guidance support and mentorship in this complex and rewarding field.
About you:
Were looking for a dedicated clinician who thrives in complex environments and is committed to delivering culturally safe trauma and violence informed care.
You will bring:
- Bachelors degree or higher in Social Work with eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Psychology with current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Skills knowledge and experience in the provision of trauma informed responses for children and young people who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour and their families and/or children young people and families who have experienced physical and sexual abuse neglect and domestic violence.
- Independent professional judgement high-level analysis problem-solving and risk assessment skills.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation policy frameworks and service systems.
- A strong commitment to culturally safe and inclusive practice.
