The Special Education Hourly Staff position supports the division by providing needed administrative services to support the Office of Special Education and Special Education programs throughout Spotsylvania County Public Schools by ensuring that special needs students services and supports are implemented with fidelity across the division.
Essential Job Functions:
Develops an effective working relationship with students parents teachers school staff and community partners concerned with special education
Provides interagency case management for students
Supports school staff in the implementation of IEP services
Supports case management for IEPs and/or special education services
Works with parents in securing community based resources to address home-based needs
Interprets to parents the functions and objectives of the school
Represents the school division on certain inter-agency committees
Assists all school staff in identifying the origin of students challenges and adjusting the school environment to allow students to make full use of the educational experience
Provides and connects students with resources and services to support academic success
Participates in child study/special education committee and school based meetings
Prepares in collaboration with the parent and other interested parties as needed special education reports and documents for students referred to special education consideration
Provides professional development coaching or other leadership opportunities for special education staff.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
Ability to obtain appropriate license (s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience as applicable
Preferred
Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Licenses within a specific endorsement area(s)
Prior teaching experience within a public school system
