Job Summary

SUMMARY:

ProvideSpecialEducation students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Develop ormodifycurricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels.Work in self-contained team departmental or itinerant capacity as assigned.

Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport assigned. Contribute toeducationprogramas a whole and togrowthof students involved in athletics.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Strategies

  • Collaborate with students parents and other members of staff to developan Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)through theAdmission Review and Dismissal (ARD)Committee process for each student assigned.
  • Implement an instructional therapeutic or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation asrequired.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning and useappropriate instructionaland learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Present subject matter effectively and according to guidelinesestablishedby a variety of instructional techniques and media including technology to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.
  • Developandimplementlessonplansforin-personlearningthatfulfilltherequirementsofDistricts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation .
  • Plan and useappropriate instructionaland learning strategies activities materials equipment and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelinesestablishedby Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with Special Education Teachers tomodifycurricula as needed for Special Education students according to guidelinesestablishedin Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff todetermineinstructional goalsobjectives and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Provide or supervise personal careto include diapering medical care and feeding of students asstatedin IEP.
  • Be a positive role model for students.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning andappropriate forthe physical social and emotional development of students.
  • Consult with classroom teachersregardingmanagement of student behavior according to IEP.
  • Manage student behaviorin accordance withStudent Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Athletic (Sport Assigned) Program Management

  • Support the establishedperformance criteria for competition and managesportactivities contests and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills teamwork and good sportsmanship.
  • Model performance criteriaandphysical movementsrequiredfor successful student performance of sport.
  • Supportan active program that promotes good sportsmanship and studentdevelopmentincluding the time resources and materials to support accomplishment of department goals.
  • Supportthe establishedphysical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in eachsport andverify each athletes eligibility.
  • Use a variety of instructional and coaching techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in theassigned sport.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes equipment materials and facilities.
  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals andobjectivesto ensure the overall educational development of student athletics.
  • Implement the policiesestablishedby federal law state law State Board of Education rule UIL rules and local board policy inareaof athletics.
  • FollowDistrict safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • ImplementDistrict student management policies communicate expected student behavior related to athletics and ensure enforcement of student disciplinein accordance withStudent Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during games bothat-homeand on out-of-town trips.
  • Instruct and advise students on National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulationswith regard toacademic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.

Communication

  • Establish andmaintaina professional relationship andopen lines of communication on vital issues withparents students colleagues and community members.

Community Relations

  • Articulate theDistricts mission and goalsin the area ofathletics to the community andsolicitits support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness ofDistrict and community needs initiate activities to meet those needs and useappropriateand effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Support athletic booster club activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • BachelorsDegreefromanaccrediteduniversity
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required Special Education endorsements for subject and level assigned.

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificatein subject assigned andValid Texas Teacher Certificate in English as a Second Language (preferredand will berequiredfor contract renewal)
  • Current first aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate

  • Clear and valid Texas commercial drivers license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (preferred)

Experience:

  • Three (3) years coaching experience at the 5-A - 6-A level
  • Ability to develop implement andmaintaina highly competitive program
  • Successful classroom teaching experience
