Job Summary
Position purpose
MacKillop has operated the Family Connect and Support (FCS) service across the Southern NSW District since 2012. FCS works with children young people and families to build family capacity and decrease risk; identify and build on formal and informal strengths and resources within families; and work in partnership with them to address any issues and aims to reduce the need for involvement of the statutory child protection system in the future. Core services include information and advice initial and comprehensive assessment warm/outbound referrals practical assistance proactive outreach short-term case planning and coordination and active holding.
Brighter Beginnings is a whole-of-government initiative which aims to provide all children in NSW with the best start. It has a focus on initiatives supporting children from pregnancy to the start of school with a particular emphasis on the first 2000 days. Brighter Beginnings aims to increase universal access to education health community and government services and to provide targeted early intervention and support to families experiencing vulnerability and hardship.
The FCS Brighter Beginnings Worker (FCSBB) is responsible for providing high quality intake referral outreach and case coordination services to vulnerable children and their families and works closely with the FCS Team Leader and other FCSBB and FCS Workers to provide high quality early intervention and family support services.
We are currently offering a Brand New Part Time opportunity-
1x 2.5 day per week role covering Bega and Batemans Bay areas
The FCS Worker reports to the FCS Team Leader and is a member of the FCS and Early Intervention and Family Preservation teams.
The FCS Worker will:
- Provide intake referral and case coordination services that meet the needs of vulnerable children and their families and reflect MacKillops values policies and practice frameworks including the Sanctuary model;
- Provide services that are culturally competent and responsive to the needs of vulnerable Aboriginal and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) families;
- Safeguard the safety and wellbeing of young people and report any concerns immediately;
- Manage a case load and ensure that individual targets are met.
- Ensure client records are maintained utilising the client management system and ensure that data is collected entered and reviewed;
- Provide feedback to referrers;
- Promote awareness and understanding of FCS across a wide range of sectors/services with a focus on the Early Childhood Education sector;
- With the FCS Team Leader and Manager build relationships with local services including government and non-government agencies with a focus on early childhood education services and schools and contribute to the development of partnerships service protocols referral pathways and integrated service responses;
- Identify practice improvements that contribute to better outcomes for vulnerable children and their families; and remain informed of policy and practice developments in early intervention and prevention child protection and related services;
Key selection criteria
The incumbent will have:
- Demonstrated skills and experience in early intervention and case childhood education experience will be highly regarded.
- A tertiary qualification in social work early childhood community development or relevant field;
- A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children young people and their families;
- Working knowledge of local services and demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and work in partnership;
- Good written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to interpret and implement organisational policy;
- Demonstrated understanding of DCJs Community and Family Support program and the early intervention and prevention and child protection service systems;
- Willingness to provide services across the Southern NSW catchment area and travel to FCS shop-fronts and outreach locations
