| Job Summary: |
This Intern position is for college students interested in pursuing a professional career with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
This program gives civil engineering construction management and similar majors the opportunity to gain practical experience as an intern in a variety of technical areas including highway and bridge construction projects material testing construction survey and bridge roadway or traffic design.
The type of work interns perform depends on the needs of the Department to which they are assigned.
| Job Duties: |
Learns how to assist inspection staff with organizing and uploading inspection documents and inputting data; learns how to utilize inspection software to query data l;. Assists with verifying that the QC/QA process is compliant. Learn to identify archived digital geotechnical reports from the Google Drive to be copied and extracted for a future ARC-GIS geotechnical database.
Learn to assist with scanning and archiving geotechnical reports inspection reports As-Builts and record drawings and bridge scour documents. Learn to perform field work to assist Geotechnical Services with inclinometer readings. This may require hiking with equipment up to 25 lbs in
mountainous terrain at worst.
Learns how to perform bridge and culvert inspections alongside an inspection team in the field. Attends meetings and required training. Learns fundamental concepts of the Arizona Management System.

Knowledge of:
*Transportation related engineering properties and procedures.
*Federal and State Regulations involving construction engineering and environmental procedures.
*Current civil engineering practices and procedures.
Skill in:
*Oral and written communication.
*Computer applications; including Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
Ability to:
*Plan and prioritize work assignments.
*Process and analyze information regarding complex transportation related issues.
*Operate a computer and use/learn specialized software programs.
*Establish and maintain work relationships.
*Operate a motor vehicle safely.
| Selective Preference(s): |
Current college student at the sophomore level or higher pursuing a major in Civil Engineering Construction Management or a transportation and/or engineering-related discipline.
| Pre-Employment Requirements: |
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).
Valid drivers license with an acceptable 39-month motor vehicle history.
