A Day in the Life

Medical Surgical is home to some of the most exciting technologies in Medtronics portfolio and with that comes a fastmoving mix of innovation commercial activity and regulatory complexity. Were looking for a Principal Paralegal who can keep pace with an exciting business area partner closely with our Legal Director and broader Medical Surgical Legal team and become a trusted goto resource for teams who rely on timely practical and wellgrounded legal support.

The Principal Paralegal role is for someone who is analytical has strong attention to detail is an excellent communicator collaborative customer-focused and enjoys working on multiple issues and projects simultaneously. This person will be part of an operating unit (OU) legal team working on a variety of day-to-day legal issues and programs that support the portfolio including meeting with business clients to provide solutions and direction assisting on business development activities complex contracting litigation support and overseeing work directed to Centers of Expertise (COEs) or other areas. The role requires a high level of responsiveness to business stakeholders in a large dynamic and fast-paced environment and involves frequent contact with business personnel in a variety of functions to gather information clarify objectives and assess compliance with company policies. This onsite role can reside in Minneapolis MN Boston MA North Haven CT or Jacksonville FL.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as the key link between the legal team business partners outside counsel and other stakeholders

  • Draft review and redline legal agreements that reside within the portfolio

  • Ensure agreements and contract terms are consistent with Medtronic policies and with legal regulatory and compliance advice

  • Act as a liaison to business personnel responding to routine questions and where necessary seeking feedback from additional resources needed to respond to questions

  • Work closely with business functions to understand their needs and streamline legal processes

  • Conduct legal and compliance research as directed by OU attorneys

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree with 7 years of paralegal or legal experience to include experience drafting redlining and negotiating contracts; or an advanced degree with 5 years of experience

Nice to Have

  • Paralegal degree or certificate

  • Experience working with moderate-to-complex agreements solid understanding of general contract terms and conditions

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to operate with autonomy in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to successfully navigate within a highly matrixed organization

  • Strong conflict resolution and influencing skills

  • Builds relationships and maintains strong communication with cross-functional partners

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and highly detail and process-oriented

  • Experience with contract management lifecycle systems

  • Experience dealing with highly confidential information with professionalism and absolute discretion

  • Familiarity with advanced legal concepts and terminology format of legal documents legal research and writing is required

  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Integrity and strong ethical character

  • Tactful exercises independent judgment and discretion professional presentation

  • Prioritizes workload and manages client expectations to execute on critical priorities

  • Able to manage multiple ongoing tasks

  • Ability to solve problems across many stakeholders

  • Works well under pressure in a dynamic environment

  • Assist with due diligence for M&A-related activities

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$100800.00 - $151200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience certification/education market conditions and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
