Today the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane in nearby Williams Lake BC and across the globe.

POSITION
Reporting to the Director of Natural Resources the Natural Resources Summer Student (Stewardship Assistant) supports Williams Lake First Nations (WLFN) stewardship monitoring and field-based activities across wildlife fisheries forestry water and land-based programs within the WLFN Stewardship Area.
This position provides hands-on experience assisting with environmental monitoring data collection and stewardship initiatives led by the Natural Resources Department. The Summer Student will work alongside Natural Resources staff to support field programs contribute to data organization and assist with basic reporting and administrative tasks.
This role is well suited for an individual who is interested in learning about natural resource stewardship enjoys working outdoors and is motivated to support Indigenous-led environmental protection and monitoring.
Employment Type
Full-Time Summer Student Term Position June 30 to August 28 2026 (35 hours per week).
Probation Period
3 months from the date of hire.

Overtime Status
Non-exempt.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with fieldworkacross forestry wildlife fisheries and cultural heritage sections of the Natural Resource Department.
- Support wildlife monitoring activities including assisting with camera trap deployment maintenance and retrieval.
- Assist with fisheries fieldwork including fisheries catch monitoring weir monitoring and basic data recording during seasonal activities.
- Assist with water quality sampling and basic aquatic habitat monitoring under staff supervision.
- Support data management including organizing field data entering information into spreadsheets and organizing photos and records.
- Participate in equipment preparation maintenance and inventory.
- Contribute to reporting and administrative tasks including cataloging and organizing heritage objects drafting summaries managing documentation and supporting meetings or community engagement.
- Provide general logistical support to Natural Resources staff during field activities and projects.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned to support Natural Resources Department priorities.
- Supports the mission vision and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
- Contributes to the WLFNs ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge
- Interest in natural resource management environment stewardship and outdoor work.
- Basic computer skills.
- Understanding First Nations history culture and language would be an asset.
