The Team

The team at Victoria Law Courts is an established and diverse group of just over 50 people including Registry Clerks Court/Registry Clerks Bilingual Court Clerks Deputy District Registrars Justices of the Peace Supervisors and Managers. The team works collaboratively to support both the Provincial Court and Supreme Court ensuring proceedings run efficiently and accurately. Court Clerks interact regularly with the Judiciary members of the legal profession justice system partners and the public playing a key role in maintaining the integrity of the court record and supporting access to justice including Frenchlanguage services across British Columbia.


The Role
As a Bilingual Court Clerk you provide essential administrative and courtroom support performing precourt incourt and postcourt duties as well as registry functions when required. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing legal documents for accuracy and completeness recording court proceedings maintaining custody of exhibits interpreting court file documentation and concluding files in accordance with legislation and court procedures. The role requires fluency in speaking reading and writing both French and English. There are two Bilingual Court Clerk positions that provide Frenchlanguage services for trials throughout the province requiring traveloften on short notice. This is fastpaced highly responsible and meaningful work that directly impacts the publics experience of the justice system and contributes to fair and accessible court services for all British Columbians.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Two (2) years of experience working in an office environment OR two (2) years combination of customer service clerical duties office experience and education.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in keyboarding data entry word processing standard computer applications and software programs (e.g. Windows MS Word Excel Outlook).
  • Minimum 40 WPM keyboarding/typing experience.
  • Must be fluent in speaking writing and reading French and English.
  • Must be able to travel throughout the Province of British Columbia.

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Experience in Court Programs and Applications (JUSTIN CEIS ARC CTAS CCD).
  • Experience delivering customer service.
  • Experience as a court clerk and/or registry clerk.
  • One (1) year of work experience in a legal environment.
  • Experience in accounting services.


Provisos:

  • Successful completion of enhanced security screening requirements of the BC Public Service which may include a criminal records check and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
  • Union membership is required.
  • Attendance and completion of relevant training is required.
  • May be required to work flexible hours including varied shifts and overtime on short notice.
  • May be required to travel including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas including circuit court locations. Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others.
  • Able to lift heavy objects up to 30 lbs.
