Energy Engineer I Western Australia
Job Summary
Join AECOMs Western Australia Energy group as an Energy Engineer based in Perth. You will be part of AECOMs Australia and New Zealand Energy business looking to make a difference supporting projects in the power generation energy storage transmission and distribution and decarbonisation sector across Western Australia and the broader ANZ region.
In this role you will work across both our Generation & Storage (GS) and Transmission & Distribution (TD) teams working on techno economic modelling assignments engineering design studies and advisory related projects across the sector. Your primary focus will be on quantitative modelling and analysis that underpin energy advisory and project development activities. At the same time you will gain hands on exposure to both generation focused and network focused engineering tasks building a well-rounded understanding of how energy systems are planned designed and integrated.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early career engineer who enjoys analytical work and energy systems modelling and who wants to develop capability across the full energy project lifecycle from generation and storage through to network connection and distribution.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and run comparative techno economic models including LCOE NPV NPC IRR and related evaluation metrics.
- Use tools such as HOMER WindPro and PVSyst to model generation and storage performance.
- Analyse load profiles and system performance under multiple scenarios.
- Contribute to studies and projects covering a range of technologies including solar PV wind BESS grid connection and hybrid configurations.
- Assist with sizing and optimisation of power generation and storage systems.
- Support interpretation of network tariffs grid connection requirements and market frameworks across WA and ANZ.
- Prepare modelling outputs technical summaries and draft sections of studies for client ready reports.
- Work collaboratively with both the GS and TD teams gaining exposure to early stage network planning grid connection considerations and distribution level design interfaces as part of your broader development.
Qualifications :
You bring strong engineering fundamentals an analytical mindset and a desire to deepen your expertise in energy systems engineering. You enjoy working with data solving complex problems and translating technical insights into clear structured outputs. You are also keen to build a broad understanding of how generation storage and network elements interact across the energy value chain.

Preferred Experience
- 2 years of experience in energy systems modelling technoeconomic analysis or energy project development.
- Understanding of comparative economic assessment methods including LCOE NPV NPC IRR and related evaluation techniques.
- Experience with modelling tools such as HOMER WindPro PVSyst and advanced Excel for postprocessing.
- Solid firstprinciples understanding of generation and storage technologies including conventional thermal systems and renewable energy technologies (solar PV wind BESS).
- Exposure to Australian energy markets (WEM NEM etc.) is advantageous.
- Undergraduate degree in an engineering discipline (electrical is advantageous).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from senior engineers and advisors.
- Interest in developing a broad skill set across both generation/storage and transmission/distribution engineering.
