Blight Abatement Worker

Job Summary
The City of Topeka is seeking two hard-working individuals to serve as Blight Abatement Workers in the Public Works department. This position supports the Citys efforts in cleaning up and maintaining public spaces to improve the Citys appearance and quality of life. This is a year-round full-time position working 40 hours a week in all types of weather conditions.
Position hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. May occasionally require working nights weekends and holidays to include 12-hour shifts.
What youll do:
- Maintain grassy areas in roadways and easements by mowing grass weed eating trimming shrubs spraying weeds etc.
- Pick up a variety of trash including mattresses and furniture.
- Operate riding lawn mowers push mowers weed eaters chain saws blowers etc.
- Complete paperwork utilizing designated devices and software.
Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license and city-insurable driving record. Up to one year of experience in performing semi-skilled building mechanical construction or grounds maintenance tasks is preferred.
Entry rate of pay: $17.17 per hour
