Job Summary

  • Base salary range: $116262 $127078 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The health safety and wellbeing (HSW) of our staff students and partners is fundamental to UWAs pursuit of excellence in education and research.

The HSW Directorate is responsible for all aspects of health and safety for staff students and other users of the Universitys campuses and properties in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA). This unit leads the Universitys strategic intent to achieve and effectively maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all and culture that considers safety and health risk as part of all operational planning and delivery activities.

The Senior WHS (Infrastructure) works within the Safety Business Partnering function of HSW.

About the opportunity

  • Provide expert WHS advice on infrastructure activities including capital works maintenance operations and asbestos and fire and emergency management applying a risk-based and technically informed approach.
  • Conduct and oversee internal and external WHS audits and assurance activities with a focus on critical risk controls investigation quality regulatory readiness and emergency management capability.
  • Lead investigations into complex and high-risk infrastructure-related incidents ensuring appropriate investigation scope and root cause analysis methods and that the outcomes inform regulatory responses assurance priorities system improvement and effective risk control.

About you

  • A degree in Occupational Safety and Health Science Health Engineering or a related field or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS principles legislation and best practice with demonstrated application in infrastructure and asset-intensive environment including maintenance activities capital projects safety in design and contractor works with specific experience in asbestos and fire and emergency management systems.
  • Extensive experience in developing implementing and improving safety management systems with expertise in compliance monitoring regulatory expectations and governance reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience addressing complex and high-risk safety issues through independent professional judgement constructive challenge and engagement with senior stakeholders across multiple locations.
  • Experience managing fire and emergency safety systems in line with AS3745 and relevant legislation including emergency planning fire warden arrangements and exercising programs.

A current National Police Clearance and drivers licence will be required by the successful applicant. Some after-hours work and occasional travel within the state may be required.
