Your role

Radio-Canada Ottawa-Gatineau is seeking a Producer-Host (Television News Anchor) for its 6 p.m. weekend newscast (Saturdays and Sundays). Reporting to the Senior News Director and working closely with the production team you will be responsible for identifying relevant interview topics writing and prioritizing key elements of the newscast delivering content and interviewing newsmakers.

As the on-air lead you will plan design organize and oversee the production and direction of the program. You will demonstrate strong leadership autonomy creativity rigor speed of execution and a collaborative team spirit. The selected candidate must be able to perform under pressure and strive for excellence.

Working within the stations editorial guidelines you will demonstrate sound editorial judgment strong organizational skills and in-depth knowledge of regional national and international issues. You will support the team and reporters in producing reports and live segments assign newsroom resources and act as assignment editor when required. This includes coordinating the work of others.

We are looking for a highly adaptable and versatile candidate. On the two additional weekdays you will partly focus on planning the weekend broadcast and also work as a journalist in the newsroom covering general news in the greater Ottawa-Gatineau region including Outaouais and Eastern Ontario. You understand the growing importance of digital and are proficient with tools that support this evolution. You will also create content for digital platforms.

The selected candidate must have a strong knowledge of the Outaouais region Ontario and the Francophone communities of Ontario. All work must comply with Radio-Canadas policies and Journalistic Standards and Practices.

This is a compressed full-time schedule over four (4) days; days off may vary depending on operational needs.

Key responsibilities:

• Coordinate and supervise the work of staff members or contributors involved in the program; select adapt or revise others script.

• Develop content based on priorities set by the assignment and deployment teams.

• Design and develop program ideas and concepts; contribute to defining program objectives in line with management direction.

• Evaluate all aspects of a production including the performance of programming and production staff and freelance contributors.

• Participate in public and community engagement activities.

• Maintain expertise in areas related to the role.

• Participate in selecting stories; propose original ideas for the program and newsroom.

• Determine the order and importance of elements within a broadcast.

• Identify relevant contributors for current topics; organize live or pre-recorded interviews and prepare visual elements; adapt quickly and find alternatives when needed.

• Conduct research pre-interviews and develop interview plans with clear angles and concise impactful questions.

• Identify headline elements for the Ottawa-Gatineau newscast.

• Edit and mix audio/visual elements or oversee editing and mixing.

• Proficient use of Mediacentral/iNews.

• Fast turnaround in editing.

• Write script structure and produce radio and television reports from A to Z including field gathering.

• Write journalistic content for digital platforms.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

You possess:

• A university degree or equivalent training.

• At least eight (8) years of experience in journalism.

• Strong ability to work proactively collaboratively and inclusively with proven leadership and team mobilization skills.

• Interest in multiplatform media production.

• Good understanding of newsroom operations.

• Excellent written and spoken French; very good knowledge of English (an asset).

• Outstanding editorial judgment.
