Role Overview:
We are seeking a high-level Appraisal Review Specialist for a unique hybrid role. This specialist will perform technical comprehensive reviews of residential appraisals while serving as the primary point of contact for members. You will be responsible for ensuring valuation accuracy and risk mitigation while effectively communicating appraisal findings and next steps directly to our members.
Top 4 Must-Haves for Candidate Vetting:
- Experience: 3 5 years in appraisal review collateral underwriting or QC.
- Member Outreach/Service: Proven ability to conduct professional outbound member calls to explain appraisal results deficiencies or reconsideration processes.
- Regulatory Expertise: Mastery of USPAP FHA 4000.1 VA Handbook and GSE guidelines.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CU (Collateral Underwriter) and Encompass (or similar LOS).
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Appraisal Review: Validate the credibility of valuations for Conventional FHA VA Jumbo and HELOC products by analyzing comps adjustments and market data.
- Direct Member Engagement: Proactively call members to discuss appraisal findings identify health/safety deficiencies and handle inquiries or reconsiderations of value (ROVs).
- Risk Mitigation: Identify red flags and material inconsistencies that could impact collateral security or regulatory compliance.
- Cross-Functional Support: Provide expert analysis and clear documentation for underwriting and QC teams to support sound credit decisions.
Candidate Profile:
- The Translator: Ability to take highly technical appraisal data and explain it in simple everyday terms to a member.
- Strong Communicator: Exceptional verbal and written skills; comfortable handling escalated or sensitive conversations with members.
- Detail-Oriented: Disciplined in documentation and maintaining strict SLA adherence.
In other words I would suggest looking for candidates with a background in Credit Unions or customer-centric community banks as they are most likely to have the member calling experience.
