Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in physical therapy and experience as physical therapist.
- State license as a physical therapist.
- Licensure by the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy.
- Tuberculin skin test certifying that the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.
- In possession of a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of current federal and state regulations and LEA policies and procedures pertaining to IDEA Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Knowledge of educational and medical disabilities of students.
- Ability to select and administer appropriate assessment tools and to interpret and report evaluation results correctly.
- Ability to evaluate the functional performance of students within school and community environments.
- Ability to participate in group decision making and planning of appropriate intervention strategies.
- Ability to integrate related services to support the students educational goals accommodations and/or modifications.
- Knowledge of major theories intervention strategies/research and the ability to relate the knowledge to the educational implications for students.
- Ability to plan develop implement evaluate and modify activities for student-centered therapeutic intervention within the educational program.
- Ability to document progress and intervention results and relate this information to the students educational goals.
- Ability to effectively communicate in verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in teams with educational personnel administrators parents/guardians students and community members.
- Ability to interpret the role of therapeutic intervention within the educational program to educational personnel administrators parents/guardians students and community members.
Nature of Position
- Provide consultation across all curriculum areas appropriate to the needs of the student to maximize the amount of time the student participates in academic instruction.
- Assess and evaluate students interpret results and plan for integrated intervention services in collaboration with the IEP team or 504 committee.
- Develop and implement integrated services based on the goals determined by the IEP team or 504 committee.
- Provide information and strategies to educational personnel students parents/guardians and community agencies.
- Participate in the LEAs comprehensive planning process for the education of students with disabilities.
- Establish procedures for implementing the therapy program and participate in the administration management maintenance and refinement/enhancement of the therapy This includes the documentation recordkeeping and supervision of therapy assistants.
- Document services using established procedures required for reimbursement.
- Adhere to ethical and legal standards of the profession to develop professionally.
- Adhere to established rules regulations and laws and works cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the LEA.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of and ability to implement current effective research-based practices.
- Recommend and facilitate the provision of therapeutic equipment.
- Provide in-service training to school personnel in the areas of lifting.
