The Florey Institute is one of Australias leading neuroscience research centres. We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Officer to support large animal research within our GLP-certified CREDOS facility and nonGLP large animal facility. This role is critical to ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare while supporting highquality compliant research programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily husbandry and welfare care for sheep in GLP and nonGLP facilities
- Ensure all animal handling and procedures comply with GLP animal ethics approvals and regulatory requirements
- Assist with preoperative and postoperative procedures and animal monitoring
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with GLP principles and animal ethics requirements
- Monitor animal health and wellbeing and report observations or adverse events
- Maintain laboratory animal housing areas and specialised equipment
- Assist researchers during experimental procedures and provide technical support
- Liaise with internal teams clinicians and external commercial clients
- Support training of researchers and students in large animal handling and safety
- Comply with all Work Health & Safety animal ethics and regulatory obligations
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in large animal medical or preclinical research environments
- Proven ability to monitor animal health and deliver high standards of welfare
- Ability to assist with procedures such as injections cannulation and physiological monitoring
- Selfmotivated reliable and committed to continuous learning
- Strong commitment to animal welfare equity diversity and respectful workplace practices
