Secondary ESY Special Education Teacher Substantially Separate Programs (5)
Waltham Public Schools is seeking dedicated Secondary Special Educators to lead our Substantially Separate ESY programs. Candidates must hold a valid license in Severe Special Needs (Moderate license may be considered with significant experience in severe settings). These programs serve middle and high school students with significant developmental communication and cognitive disabilities who require a highly individualized and predictable summer routine to maintain functional and academic skills. The ideal candidate will have expertise in providing specialized instruction social-emotional support and transition-based programming for students within a self-contained environment. Responsibilities include implementing modified academic curricula and functional life skills programming tailored to the specific developmental needs of young adults.
A critical component of this role involves the implementation of individualized plans and the consistent collection of data on IEP benchmarks to prevent regression. Beyond direct instruction the teacher will oversee all aspects of the classroom environment. Administrative duties include reviewing student records to ensure service compliance managing daily classroom and vocational schedules and maintaining proactive supportive communication with Waltham families. The teacher will also finalize participation summary reports for each student at the conclusion of the session.

- Dates: July 6 August 6 (Monday Thursday)
- Student Hours: 9:00 am 2:00 pm
- Locations: McDevitt or Kennedy Middle School Waltham High School 617 Lexington
- Teacher On-Campus Hours: 8:45 am 2:15 pm (plus one hour of daily planning)
- Compensation: $40.00 per hour Total Stipend: $5600.00 (inclusive of 20 session days and 10 hours of dedicated pre- and post-program administrative work)
