About the Role

This position plays a lead role in the development implementation and evaluation of evidence based AOD prevention strategies to reduce harm across local and regional communities. You will work closely with government and non-government agencies professionals and community groups to coordinate and strengthen prevention efforts.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Lead the development review and implementation of:

- Community Wellbeing Plans

- Alcohol and Other Drug Management Plans

- Volatile Substance Use Plans

  • Lead and manage evidence based prevention strategies in partnership with the Mental Health Commission and key stakeholders
  • Establish shared prevention goals across stakeholders and support the formation of community action groups
  • Support community groups to respond to local AOD issues
  • Build strong partnerships with stakeholders including Police and local state and Commonwealth representatives
  • Deliver training to increase community capacity to plan implement and evaluate prevention initiatives
  • Deliver and support state wide prevention campaigns at a regional level including local media and engagement strategies
  • Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure continuous improvement
  • Analyse AOD research data and trends at local state national and international levels
  • Contribute to evidence informed prevention planning and program development

What Were Looking For

  • Essential: A tertiary qualification in health promotion public health or health/social science
  • Demonstrated experience working with health and community groups in education health promotion or community action
  • Experience in or ability to develop implement manage and evaluate AOD prevention initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of the impacts of alcohol and other drugs on individuals families and communities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across diverse settings
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities in a culturally secure and respectful way
  • Experience influencing and implementing policies strategies or public health initiatives
  • Well developed organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Current C Class drivers licence and willingness to travel
