What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Scientist. The individual will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services. This is a full-time on-site opportunity in Baltimore MD.
Select devise plan and execute experiments in the context of the laboratorys overall research program.
Perform a variety of experimental procedures including isolation and analysis of DNA RNA and protein by routine molecular biology methods such as in situ hybridization RNA Scope immunohistochemical staining automated DNA sequencing cell culture Southern Northern and Western blot analysis real-time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and protein extraction.
Complete a variety of experimental procedures on the expression of insulin isoforms and genetics of insulin signaling in the brain Alzheimers Disease (AD) and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).
Function as primary investigator in animal research studies and develop animal model systems as related to neuroscience and optogenetics; submit and gain approval of laboratory animal study protocols.
Determine experimental approaches to be applied to evaluate the hypotheses under investigation and for planning and carrying out those experiments
Evaluate new types of experimental approaches and recommend changes to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on knowledge of scientific literature available facilities and research needs.
Perform analysis and interpretation of the data for developing strategies for pursuing significant observation and for ensuring accuracy and reproducibility of results.

Communicate results and methods in reports presentations and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and at local national and international meetings.
Coordinate the training of laboratory personnel research associates post-doctoral fellows visiting scientists students and others in specialized technologies.
Independently direct and conduct special research projects that have a high priority for the laboratory with special emphasis on the development of novel research treatments.
Manage scientific equipment and resources (e.g. reagents stocks of frozen cells animal samples) including acquisition documentation and storage.
Oversee data management for all processed compounds.
Collaborate with staff to confirm assay results.
Evaluate new techniques instruments and search literature to propose design and test alternative assays for difficult screening targets; confirm assay results; develop secondary assays.
Coordinate projects being developed in the laboratory propose Stop and Reverse (SAR) strategies and monitor their progress.
Author papers and abstracts detailing research efforts and results for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Produce research reports and regularly communicate results to staff and collaborators.
Manage a portfolio of research grants in the assigned area.
What You Will Need:
Masters degree in biochemical sciences neuroscience physiology cognitive science and biopsychology or related field.
At least SIX (6) years of biomedical research experience.
Proven ability in managing and coordinating interdisciplinary research projects.
Experience in multiple aspects of manuscript development activities.
Author/ co-author on peer reviewed journals.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD public trust; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their public trust prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred
What Would Be Nice To Have:
Ph.D. in chemistry biochemistry biology genetics neuroscience or related field preferred.
Knowledge of bioinformatics and application to large proteomics and gene data sets and their interpretation.
Proficient with MS Office Suite.
Excellent analytical organizational and time management skills.
Strong communication skills written and oral.
