POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Communications the Communications Summer Student will assist in various administrative tasks to support the Communications team and gain insight into the functions and responsibilities of Westbank First Nations Communications Department.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 or in a post-secondary program
  • Educational interest in Communications Business Administration or related fields
  • Experience working with indigenous communities/people considered an asset
  • Equivalent combination of education training and experience may be considered

REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
  • Valid BC Drivers License and Acceptable Drivers Abstract
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Provides administrative support and assistance to the Communications Department
  • Assists with Communications projects and initiatives
  • Provides support to various Communications functions including writing newsletter articles attending events taking photos and helping with various event setup as required
  • Assists in implementing strategic social media campaigns that meet WFNs objectives and goals
  • Answers calls returns voicemails and takes messages for the Department
  • Collaborates with team members to develop reports presentations and communication materials for internal and external stakeholders
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies standards and procedures and as directed by the Manager of Communications

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Westbank First Nations Community & Services
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative team player with strong judgment skills
  • Comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment
  • Passion for working with people promoting economic development and contributing to the success of WFN

The Median Hourly Wage is $23.00

This is a term position set to end August 28 2026
