Job Summary

Overview

The Center for the School of the Future (CSF) at Utah State University seeks a Clinical Fellow to assist the CSF director in building out public school early literacy supports and designated tasks in accordance with the established CSF mission and legislative assignments. This will include assisting with the creation of a plan to address teacher candidate application of the science of reading knowledge in their classroom instruction as specified for CSF in SB241. The Clinical Fellow is a part-time position. Applicants should demonstrate a strong record of professional experience with appointments in K-12 public education with particular experience in early reading grounded in the science of reading.

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Centers leadership staff and other CSF Fellows to address identified K-12 improvements in student academic learning.
  • Assist CSF leadership and staff in designing testable interventions programs or systems for improving K-12 student learning.
  • Work with Utah public school leaders to plan and implement school supports.
  • Support the CSF director in developing documenting and implementing the science-of-reading plan assigned to CSF in S.B. 241 in collaboration with the Utah Board of Higher Education and the Utah State Board of Education.
  • Prepare briefs implementation tools and progress updates for CSF leadership and partners.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate candidates require a terminal degree in K-12 education with a reading concentration and expertise in the science of reading.
  • Breadth of successful public school experience with particular expertise in K-3 reading/writing and strong knowledge of science of reading.
  • Successful experience working with university programs to implement strong teacher preparation.
  • Experience working collaboratively and successfully with K-12 school leadership and other educational personnel.
  • Interest in working successfully with policy makers toward improved educational outcomes.
  • Evidence of an innovative mindset to identify implement and evaluate solutions for vexing challenges in public education.
  • Experience producing and publishing educational research in peer-reviewed outlets.
  • Ability to align work efforts with the Centers mission vision and values.
  • Demonstrated expertise in early literacy the science of reading and research grounded K-3 reading instruction.
  • Successful experience translating reading research into teacher preparation professional learning or school implementation supports.
  • Strong writing and communication skills for plans briefs reports and stakeholder-facing materials.
