Job Summary

The Division is responsible for the Scottish Governments approach to onshore renewables working across high-profile policy areas including onshore wind battery storage markets and networks and supporting ambitions on community energy and community benefit.
The Low Carbon Electricity Policy Team sets policy and removes barriers to deploying onshore renewables such as onshore wind bioenergy and solar. It is expected that this role will offer the opportunity to work strategically across multiple of these technologies. Our mission is to make a vital contribution to the fight against climate change and to support Scotlands transition to net zero.
- Demonstrated experience of leading and managing policy development and using evidence to make clear and well-reasoned policy recommendations.
- Ability to establish and sustain relationships with stakeholders.
- Ability to work with colleagues across government to ensure policy development and areas of work are aligned and contribute towards the wider organisational priorities.
Responsibilities
- Lead on the Scottish Governments development of policy across onshore renewable technologies.
- Deliver discrete areas of strategy reform policy development and programme management with C-band support.
- Analyse evidence and work with analytical colleagues to support Ministerial decisions and to inform representations to the UK Government.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across governments industry and statutory bodies.
- Provide high-quality support for Ministers including briefings PQs FMQs MiCases FOIs and EIRs and maintain core briefs.
- Contribute to wider priorities within the Onshore Electricity Policy Unit and the Division.
DECC is committed to ensuring that we manage the balance of workload and staffing. That means we may require staff to support in priority areas as they arise. This area has been confirmed as a current priority for DECC but the postholder may be required to work on other priorities within the this Division or more widely in DECC in the future.

This role is a temporary position with an expected commitment of 5 months.
