The Role
This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of junior tennis in Southern California by providing young athletes with opportunities to develop and excel in the sport. The role oversees Junior Tournaments and serves as the primary lead for High School tennis programming working as a dynamic and experienced Program Manager. Develops and implements educational components for junior players high school coaches and providers.
- High School & CIF Leadership: Lead all high school tennis initiatives acting as the primary section liaison for the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) and other school associations to support their programs and the Serve platform.
- First Serve Tournaments: Take the lead in managing and executing the First Serve tournament series ensuring high standards of competition and organization for high school players.
- Sanctioning & Oversight: Represent manage and oversee all details related to the sanctioning of USTA Southern California junior tournaments National Team events and section exchanges.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the Junior Comp Coordinator and provide guidance as needed.
- Calendar Management: Manage a comprehensive calendar of sanctioned junior and high school tournaments and national/exhibition team events year-round catering to players from recreational to advanced levels.
- Member Org Compliance: Oversee the sanctioning process and manage all documents submitted by Member Organizations that apply to host junior tournaments. Ensure all Member Organizations adhere to the Sanction Rules & Guidelines and Junior Tournament Rules.
- Safe Play: Manage and incentivize the Safe Play policies and procedures across all junior and high school tournaments.
- Strategic Growth: Strategically expand the number of Junior and High School Tournaments available in Southern California fostering increased participation across all competitive levels.
- Event Hosting: Host junior tournaments and invitational events (e.g. Pacific Cup Maze Cup L4 Team Showdown and high school championships).
- Technical Training: Provide regular comprehensive training for Tournament Directors and high school coaches on maximizing Serve Tennis functionality while enhancing their skills in organizing and executing successful tournaments.
- Education: Develop and facilitate educational workshops for Tournament Directors Member Organizations school associations parents and players.
- Performance Analysis: Oversee customer satisfaction and tournament performance actively collecting and analyzing feedback to inform strategies and implement necessary improvements for stakeholders.
- Sportsmanship: Develop and implement sportsmanship initiatives aimed at fostering positive behavior and respect among players spectators and tournament staff.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the budget for junior and high school tournaments ensuring efficient allocation of resources to maximize impact and cost-effectiveness.
- Pathway Integration: Establish and maintain relationships with other staff members working in the competitive and community programs space to develop a pathway from junior/high school competition through adult competition.
- Advocacy: Be knowledgeable about all USTA junior programs and the impact they have in the section. Advocate for and support the development and growth of junior and high school tennis within the region.
Travel Obligations
- Attend local and national staff training and meetings as required by your supervisor.
- Ability to travel within the SoCal Section and occasionally outside the Section.
- Attend/supervise junior and high school tournaments assigned by your supervisor.
- Coordinate and attend meetings assigned by your supervisor.
- Visit various locations to view the standards of tennis courts utilized for junior and school tournaments.
- Must be available for travel to work weekends and extra hours as necessary.
Who You Are
- Strong academic background; Bachelors degree and/or equivalent work experience required.
- 6 years of experience working in the tennis industry and experience training staff and volunteers. Experience with high school tennis structures and CIF regulations preferred.
- Proven ability and high level of competency in completing administrative and organizational tasks.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to articulate work progress and results.
- High energy and enthusiasm with a desire to initiate and effectively promote programs.
- Ability to work well with others and demonstrate a high level of self-motivation.
- Comfortable with public speaking networking and developing business relationships.
- Ability to problem-solve troubleshoot and work under pressure.
- Team player mentality; positive and helpful attitude.
- Valid CA State-issued drivers license and a clean driving record.
- Advanced to proficient in the use of the Google Workspace and the Serve Tennis platform.

The expected range for the annual base salary for this position is $65000 - $70000.This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables including as appropriate the applicants qualifications for the position the years of relevant experience their unique skills and the location from which they will be performing the job.
