Purpose of Position
TheDepartment ofChemistry at the University of North DakotaseeksaTeaching Assistant is a 9-month non-tenure track position contingent on availability of funding.The teaching load in year one will be70% teaching. Course loads foryearstwo and beyond are expectedto Chemistry Department is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and offers an ACS-certified B.S. degree B.S./M.S. and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

Duties & Responsibilities
The successful applicant will receive a contract with an approximate distribution of70% teaching(approximately6to7courses over the academic year) and30% service effort. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teachon campus and onlinecourses in generalchemistry andserve as coordinator of general chemistry laboratories. The implementation of effective teaching practices is highly is 70% effort teaching and 30% effort service activities (including lab management and supervision of teaching assistants)
Development of online coursework
Work collaboratively with otherChemistryDepartment faculty to achieveconsistent and high-quality learning environmentscontributeto scholarly research in teaching
Advise and mentor undergraduate students

Required Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to teach inspire and mentor students
- Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty staff and students
- Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Chemistry program
- Experience in using technology and ability to adopt new tools and current methods for both on-campus and online course delivery
- Ability to ensure implementation of safety guidelines
Minimum Requirements
- M.S. Degree in chemistry or related field by August 15 2026
- Teaching experience at the college level
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

- Ph.D. Degree in chemistry or related field by August 15 2026
- Demonstrated teaching and mentoring effectiveness
- Experience in lecture and laboratory instruction
- Experience in the implementation of safety guidelines
- Experience in lab management
- Experience with the development and instruction of online courses
- Demonstrated involvement in the scholarship of teaching
