The Opportunity

The role of a Fraud Investigator is to review and investigate alerts applications claims or cases flagged for review for suspected fraud. R eporting to Fraud Team Managers our investigators play an important role in dealing with a diverse range of live work and investigations within a fast paced environment.

Key Accountabilities Include:

  • Handling a range of live workflow and i nvestigations to meet regulatory and internal SLAs; identifying suspicious transactions and conducting detailed investigations to high quality
  • As required collaborate on complaint cases with the Starling Complaints team aiming for early resolution
  • Liaising with other banks and the relevant authorities as necessary through several c hannels including email phone and CIFAS
  • Communicating directly with customers as part of ongoing fraud investigations to establish c ircumstances and additional information before providing a fair and logical decision with s upporting rationale
  • Use experience and expertise in your Fraud field to support on wider unit department and bank projects
  • Identify risks and gaps in procedure policy and controls; proactively raise with management and help to rectify them as required
  • Working as part of a team and supporting when required to reduce workload(s) across Fraud Operations

Requirements

Behaviours & Competencies:

  • Attention to detail - examine financial r ecords transactions and other r elevant information to identify any a nomalies or signs of fraudulent a ctivity
  • A confident decision-maker who can a ct independently to deliver case o utcomes to high quality standards w ithin SLA in a high pressure environment
  • Use of analytical and creative t hinking to find a resolution to cases; i dentify patterns and trends that may i ndicate fraud activity
  • Exceptional communication and p resentation skills capable of d ocumenting case outcomes to high s tandards
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced o perations environment d emonstrating flexible to the needs of t he Operations
  • Collaborative working style; strong a bility to build relationships with m anagement peers and s takeholders

Skills:

  • Experience in a customer facing role (e.g. Customer Services Back Office Complaints) in an FCA regulated environment
  • Knowledge of managing complaints and vulnerable customer cases within an FCA r egulated environment
  • Good judgement skills and the ability to make evidence-based accountable decisions p resenting summaries in a concise manner
  • Proactive and demonstrable problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organisational time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Desirable:

  • Experience within Fraud Operations and knowledge of fraud legislation and regulation and fraud strategies
  • Experience of completing Fraud investigations
  • Knowledge base of all available Fraud typologies to ensure a holistic approach to fraud risk i dentification
