Role Overview We are seeking 15 motivated Body CAD Engineers to join our engineering team in Novi this role you will be responsible for the development and release of Body-in-White (BIW) and Exterior Body components. You will manage the entire lifecycle of these components-from initial concept and 3D modeling through to final manufacturing launch.
This is a high-impact opportunity to work on structural and aesthetic automotive systems while ensuring they meet rigorous safety weight and cost targets.
Key Responsibilities -
Design & Development: Lead the 3D CAD development of BIW and exterior components across concept design and launch phases.

Modeling & Documentation: Create and maintain high-fidelity CAD models complex assemblies master sections and detailed 2D drawings per industry standards.

Feasibility & Packaging: Conduct design feasibility studies and packaging assessments to resolve engineering trade-offs and spatial constraints.

Dimensional Accuracy: Apply advanced GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles to ensure manufacturability and dimensional robustness.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with CAE teams to optimize designs for crashworthiness durability NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) and structural integrity.

Data Management: Manage engineering changes design iterations and configuration control within PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems.

Validation Support: Assist with virtual validation prototype builds and physical testing to verify design performance.

Supplier Liaison: Coordinate with manufacturing teams and external suppliers to ensure components are optimized for production.
Skill Requirements & Qualifications -
Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skills in 3D CAD software (e.g. CATIA V5/V6 NX or equivalent).

Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of automotive body structures sheet metal fabrication or injection molded exterior trim.

Standards: Deep knowledge of GD&T manufacturing processes (stamping welding assembly) and drafting standards.

Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret CAE results and translate them into design improvements.

Education: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering Automotive Engineering or a related technical field.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional global teams.
