Job Summary

The Community Engagement& EventsWorker willparticipatein programsandfacilitatingcommunity related events which are essential to the alleviation of poverty and homelessness and build healthy relationships between stakeholders in The Mustard Seeds diverse community.

The position will promote education and awareness to the wider public on local social issues such as poverty and homelessness. Specifically they will help run educational programs inner-city immersion educational experienceswith youth and adultswho will serve and learn with The Mustard Seed community. They willsupportthe development of socialissueswalksvolunteer engagementand will support The Mustard Seeds basic services including a meal program and clothing center.

Wage: $20.00 per hour

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and implement community engagement activities for youth
  • Promoteexperientiallearningprogramsto youthpastors colleges and churches
  • Jointly organizeevents &activities with the external and internal resources
  • Deliver Community Engagement workshops and presentations as needed
  • Facilitate learning opportunities to help youth better understand the issues of poverty and homelessness in their own community andequip youth to deepen theirengagement with local agencies andcauses
  • Be the first point of contact for volunteers; creating a welcoming atmosphere and a culture of hospitality.
  • Maintaining and supporting volunteer roles
  • Maintaining and inputting information into volunteer database
  • Represent The Mustard Seed to theworkerscommunity
  • Attend staff meetingsand other training asrequired
  • Other duties asassigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Passion for fostering a deeper understanding of poverty and homelessness inthe community
  • Empathy for the poor and a desire for greater understanding concerning poverty and justice issues in an urbancenter
  • Completing post-secondary studies in ministry social work education community development youth and childcare studies or a related program
  • Strong computercommunicationandconflict resolution skills
  • Strong teambuilding and leadership skills
  • Must be currently enrolled infulltimein a post-secondary program and fully intending to return tofulltimestudies in the fall of2025
  • Between the ages of 15-30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 40 hours per week;someeveningand weekendhoursmaybe requiredto accommodate the hours of the community hubs
  • Support in the design promotion and evaluation of summer programming
  • Working environment will include indoor and outdoor activities office work on computer lifting and some travelwill berequired
  • Physicaland mentaleffort will be moderate
  • Valid Drivers License Drivers Abstract andEmployment Security Checkisrequired
  • Navigating interactions with challenging clients who mayexhibitunpredictable behavior including swearing anger and the possibility of becoming aggressive
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry we require our employees tobe in agreementand to sign our statement of faith
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
