As Irelands national public service media organisation RTÉ News and Current Affairs provides independent and trusted news and current affairs content across multiple platforms.
We are looking for a Deputy Editor Digital.
Reporting to the Editor Prime Time the Deputy Editor Digital will be responsible for managing the production of RTÉ Current Affairs output on television radio news programmes online and on social media.
About the role:
The Deputy Editor Digital must always reflect RTÉs vision mission and values and its commitment to public service broadcasting and be fully committed to the provision of fair impartial and comprehensive current affairs programming.
This position will be offered on a full-time ongoing contract basis at Manager Grade 2 level. The salary scale is 72605 to 101840 gross per annum.

Reporting to the Editor Prime Time the Deputy Editor Digital will be responsible for managing the production of RTÉ Current Affairs output on television radio news programmes online and on social media.
About the role:
- take a leadership role in commissioning and editing digital output across Current Affairs including Prime Time and RTÉ Investigates
- drive forward the development of the Clarity strand of journalism focusing on misinformation and disinformation
- devise and implement a YouTube strategy for Current Affairs taking account of audience trends
- lead and manage the future development of a motivated team of digital journalists
- research and produce original journalism and special reports both long-form and short-form for the RTÉ News app social platforms and for television and radio
- oversee and develop the content direction and work of the Current Affairs Digital Unit
- manage editorial and legal aspects of the Unit
- manage financial and technical aspects of the Unit
- occasionally provide editorial and production support on Prime Time and / or special programmes as required
- have a proven track record in sourcing and developing stories of significant public interest in a digital news current affairs and investigative environment
- considerable experience in exercising editorial and legal judgement across a range of challenging subjects including but not limited to politics economics legislation and social issues
- an in-depth knowledge of digital media consumption trends
- excellent knowledge of and news and current affairs Irish society and its institutions and a good knowledge of international affairs
- an in-depth knowledge and working experience of RTÉ policies including but not limited to the RTÉ Journalism Guidelines the Child Safeguarding Policy etc
- proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
- resource management skills with a particular focus on the efficient supervision of resources
- excellent communications and interpersonal skills; written visual and oral
- a high level of initiative and the capability to deliver to strict deadlines and under challenging circumstances.
