The Opportunity
Orrcon Steel Manufacturing is looking for an Automation Technician to join the reliability team based in OSullivan Beach. Orrcon Steel Manufacturing is a leading Australian supplier of steel and aluminium products offering a comprehensive range engineered to meet the demands of diverse industries. In this hands-on role youll play a critical part in maintaining and improving automation systems and control infrastructure to support the safe and reliable manufacture of our world-class steel products. As a key member of our dedicated Reliability team youll work on both business-as-usual maintenance and significant automation and safety-focused projects contributing directly to the performance safety and future capability of the site.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity working day shift ideal for a highly skilled automation professional who enjoys being on the tools while also engaging in commissioning upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
What Will You Do
As part of this site-based reliability team you will:
- Ensure safety is never compromised proactively identifying risks and implementing improvements to systems and processes.
- Perform hands-on electrical and automation maintenance including fault finding repairs wiring and assembly of plant automation equipment and control panels.
- Provide automation coverage across maintenance activities while also contributing to capital works upgrades and new equipment installations.
- Support commissioning activities and ongoing optimisation of new and existing equipment.
- Work with integrated automation safety and information systems ensuring reliable performance and accurate system reporting.
- Coordinate and oversee external contractors when specialist support or additional resources are required.
- Collaborate closely with engineers technicians and operations stakeholders to troubleshoot issues improve reliability and refine automation systems.
- Develop maintain and follow technical documentation procedures and isolation plans to support safe and consistent work practices.
- Actively identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives helping shape how automation and maintenance systems evolve across the site.
More About You
As a maintenance professional within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment you will bring:
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology with a current A-Grade SA Electrical Licence (mandatory).
- Solid post-trade experience as an automation-focused electrician in manufacturing industrial mining or heavy industry environments.
- Strong end-to-end exposure across electrical maintenance automation systems fault finding and project work.
- PLC and automation experience with Siemens exposure highly regarded.
- Hands-on experience with automated machinery control systems and industrial plant.
- The ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders and build strong working relationships across the business.
- A proactive solutions-focused mindset with a genuine interest in learning improving systems and building long-term capability.
- Comfort working at heights (including crane maintenance) when required.
