Plantation Manager PALM OIL Africa

Reports to: General Manager / Director of Operations

The Plantation Manager is responsible for the end-to-end strategic and operational management of the oil palm plantation. This includes overseeing land preparation nursery management planting harvesting and logistics ensuring maximum Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) yield while maintaining high environmental and safety standards.

• Oversee all agronomic practices including soil management fertilization pest and disease control and pruning.

• Develop and execute efficient harvesting rounds to ensure optimal ripeness of FFB and minimize Free Fatty Acid (FFA) levels.

• Monitor and analyze yield data to implement corrective actions for underperforming blocks.

• Prepare annual operating plans (AOP) and capital expenditure (CAPEX) budgets.

• Manage operational costs (OPEX) by optimizing resource allocation labor productivity and material usage.

• Maintain accurate records of inventory machinery utilization and production statistics.

• Directly manage a diverse workforce including field supervisors permanent staff and seasonal contractors.

• Ensure rigorous training programs for staff on best agricultural practices and safety protocols.

• Foster a productive work environment and manage industrial relations in compliance with local labor laws.

• Ensure plantation operations align with international sustainability standards (e.g. RSPO or CSPO) and local environmental regulations.

• Oversee Health Safety and Environment (HSE) initiatives to ensure a zero-harm workplace.

• Maintain strong community relations and manage corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects within the host community.

• Supervise the maintenance of plantation infrastructure including roads drainage systems and staff housing.

• Coordinate the timely transport of FFB from the field to the mill to ensure processing efficiency.

• Education: Bachelors degree in Agriculture Agronomy Estate Management or a related field. A Masters degree or professional certification is an advantage.

• Experience: 10 years of experience in plantation management with at least 5 years specifically in Oil Palm operations.

• Regional Expertise: Proven track record of managing large-scale agricultural operations within the African context.

• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of oil palm phenology nutrient requirements and integrated pest management (IPM).

• Resilience: Ability to work in remote locations and adapt to challenging environmental conditions.

• Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and motivate large labor forces.

• Analytical Thinking: Proficiency in using data-driven insights to improve crop cycles and logistics.

• Integrity: High level of ethical standards particularly regarding land use and labor management.
