SUMMARY
The Staff Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) who practices within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act to deliver comprehensive high-quality patient-centered care. This role applies clinical knowledge the nursing process and leadership skills to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN follows established Client and nursing division policies procedures and standards of care while coordinating patient and family involvement and delegating tasks appropriately.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess patient needs including physical psychosocial environmental cultural and discharge planning factors.
- Provide compassionate patient-centered care using empathy active listening and cultural awareness.
- Develop implement and update individualized plans of care.
- Perform clinical procedures in accordance with Client policies and state nursing standards.
- Evaluate patient outcomes and modify care plans as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care.
- Document care accurately per established standards.
- Educate patients and families on treatment and care plans.
- Mentor and support staff including serving as a preceptor.
- Assist with interventional radiology (IR) procedures alongside the radiology team.
- Provide pre- intra- and post-procedural patient care and monitoring.
- Administer medications including sedation and emergency drugs and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Prepare procedure rooms and position patients appropriately.
- Follow all radiation safety protocols.
- Adhere to departmental policies downtime procedures and safety standards.
- Delegate tasks to allied healthcare staff as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development and training programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- BSN preferred.
- 0-1 year of nursing experience required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain accurate records.
Technical Skills
Experience with EMR systems (e.g. Cerner) preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
Basic computer and data entry skills required.
Certifications & Licensure
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) License - Illinois
- BLS/CPR Certification (Required)
- ACLS (as required by unit)
