    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    The primary role of the Literacy Instructional Specialist is to support evidence based literacy instruction across all tiers and lead Tier 3 literacy intervention support to identified students.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee the school-wide universal screening diagnostic and data triangulation processes in alignment with theTCSD Literacy Improvement Plan.
    • Prepare school-wide data to support decision-making for students literacy and language needs. Provide organized and timely progress information to classroom teachers parents students and administration.
    • Organize and manage progress monitoring information and intervention plans for targeted students. This includes the development communication and coordination of Individual Reading Plans (IRPs) and the consistent use of Branching Minds MTSS platform.
    • Oversee the literacy paraprofessionals including providing necessary support providing an appropriate schedule for serving students and assisting with teacher communication.
    • Design implement and coordinate Tier 3 literacy intervention support employing a variety of instructional techniques in small intervention groups toward the achievement of students individual learning goals.
    • Participate and contribute to school-level PLCs supporting the Tier 2 additional instructional support model through collaboration and coordination.
    • Support and facilitate professional development toteachers and instructional staff in alignment of Tier 1 and 2 evidence-based instructional practices and interventions aligned toTCSDs MTSS Academic Framework.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development and coordination with the district literacy specialist team and MTSS teams.
    • Communicate and partner with families to support student achievement.
    • Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by Wyoming state statute district policy and administrative regulation.
    • Assume leadership role on the schools core MTSS team collaborating with all members to coordinate student supports. Facilitate literacy progress monitoring and problem-solving processes to ensure appropriate supports for students.
    • Complete tasks as assigned by principal or designee.

    PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:

    • Knowledge of using screening diagnostics PLC assessments and teacher input as tools to understand each students unique strengths and instructional needs.
    • Knowledge of MTSS and instructional frameworks and the corresponding research literature and evidence-based practices.
    • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices assessment and resources and be specifically knowledgeable about effective practices for at-risk students (MLs special education low socio-economic status etc.)
    • Knowledge and conceptual understanding of literacy and language development.
    • Has expertise in using data-based decision making to determine program effectiveness for accelerating student growth and achievement.
    • Evidence of adaptability and strong problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrates a Growth Mindset when approaching instruction and when providing support to teachers and students.
    • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students teachers administration and families.
    • Takes the initiative to identify student needs before they become hurdles making decisive actions that prioritize the students best interest.
    • Deeply committed to the belief that all students can learn at high levels and stays current on research that promotes equitable student outcomes.
    • Maintains the highest standards of confidentiality while using student data to drive empathetic and effective instructional decisions.

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience.
    • Extensive knowledge of literacy development.
    • Specialized training in evidence-based instructional practices and evidence-based instructional resources (e.g. MTSS LETRS IMSE).
    • Masters degree in education or literacy preferred.
    • Wyoming teacher certification.(Applicants must be able to obtain a teaching certificate issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board ()with a required K-6 Endorsement Reading ESL related content endorsement(s) preferred.

    The School District places employees on salary schedules on the basis of:

    1. Wyoming experience.
    2. Out-of-state experience up to 7 years.
    3. Degree ï½ Bachelors Masters or Doctorate.
    4. Semester Graduate Credits beyond Degree.

    Salary pending approval of the 26/27 Compensation Package; 25/26 package can be foundhere.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person may need to lift arms to write on chalk or marking board and occasionally stoop kneel crouch and reach 0 - 24 inches and up to 36 inches above the head. The employee is directly responsible for the safety well-being and work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed materialthe ability to adjust focus and exposure to screen(s) via technology. Hearing ability to monitor activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is normally low to moderate but may become loud when large groups are together in a room. The employee may be required to move from room to room to provide instruction and may have to maneuver in crowded hallways. The employee may be exposed to unpredictable weather conditions. This position is typically performed in a hazard free clean and healthy environment.
