Are you a dedicated and experiencedRegistered Nurse ready to take the next step in your career Mater Private Hospital Townsville is offering an exciting opportunity to transition into acute care through our specialised Entry to Acute Care Program.
Designed to support experienced community or GP nurses in expanding their clinical skills this program provides a structured pathway into the hospital environment with hands-on learning and ongoing support from experienced healthcare professionals.
We run this program every six months and are currently seeking expressions of interest for our next intake at the end of May. Successful applicants will complete an 8-week transition program and be offered permanent part-time employment at 0.8 FTE.

Salary range: $41.73 - $53.53 per hourplus superannuationandaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15900access to many staff benefits!
About the Program:
In this program you will take part in dedicated study days and work alongside experienced nurses supported closely by our Clinical Educators. You will gain hands-on experience caring for patients across a variety of acute settings including Medical and CCU/CTU.
Your community nursing experience will be highly valued as you deliver holistic patient care monitor vital signs administer medications and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support individualised care planning.
Working in a modern acute care environment with advanced technology complex medical cases and specialised surgical services you will have the opportunity to significantly expand your clinical knowledge and skill set. Acute care nursing is fast-paced and highly rewarding and whether you are an experienced nurse or transitioning from a non-acute setting this program is designed to build your confidence and capability. You may also have opportunities to observe surgical procedures enhancing your understanding of the full patient journey from admission through to recovery.
Throughout the program and beyond the initial 8 weeks you will be supported by Mater Education Clinical Facilitators and Educators to ensure a smooth and supported transition into acute care practice.
About you:
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
- Minimum of 1 year post grad experience in any area of nursing
- Passion to transition your nursing career into an acute hospital setting
- Availability to work across a 24/7 rotating roster including mornings nights and weekends
- The ability to contribute effectively and efficiently within a busy multidisciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate patient care and competency in clinical problem solving
- Demonstrated competency in written and verbal communications and the ability to maintain accurate clinical and assessment data
