What Youll Do

The Y-12 National Security Complex is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Classification Analyst Senior Specialist to contribute advanced technical expertise to its Classification Office. This critical role involves safeguarding national security by ensuring the proper identification and protection of Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Information (UCNI) Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and classified information including National Security Information and Restricted/Formerly Restricted Data. A deep understanding of Y-12s unique production processes and facilities is paramount to success in this position.

As a Senior Specialist you will serve as a subject matter expert making informed decisions on classification and protection in accordance to Federal Regulations statutes and DOE orders. Your expertise will directly support the Y-12 mission of manufacturing and refurbishing classified weapon components as well as transportation and storing special nuclear materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply an advanced technical level of knowledge to the Y-12 Classification Office regarding UCNI CUI and classified information with a particular emphasis on Y-12 production-related content.
  • Implement and manage federal regulations statutes and DOE orders governing the identification and protection of classified and controlled unclassified information specifically as it pertains to Y-12s production operations such as enriched uranium depleted uranium lithium processing and weapon assembly/disassembly.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert making cognizant decisions on classification and protection for Y-12 production processes and facilities.
  • Demonstrate strong competencies in solving complex classification-related technical issues that arise from Y-12s manufacturing and production activities.
  • Assist in the management of Y-12 Classification Office issues and assessment functions including developing tracking and closing Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) that may impact classified or controlled unclassified information policies and procedures related to production.
  • Collaborate with and advise plant personnel project and program staff on classified and controlled unclassified information program compliance ensuring seamless integration with Y-12s production timelines and objectives.
  • Effectively communicate the impacts of classification guidance and decisions on the success of short and long-term objectives within the overall Y-12 mission.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Chemistry Physics or a related Physical Science discipline and a minimum 7 years of relevant experience
  • OR Masters degree in Engineering/Physical Science discipline and a minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • OR PhD in Engineering/Physical Science discipline and a minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Job Requirements

  • In-depth work-related experience with Y-12 production including specific knowledge of the manufacturing processes for enriched uranium depleted uranium and lithium as well as weapon assembly and dismantlement
  • Familiarity with the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) project Lithium Production facility (LPF) Agile Radiation Case Capability (ARCC) and other modernization efforts and their roles in Y-12s future production capabilities
  • Y-12 Production Knowledge: Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of Y-12 production processes and facilities including understanding the criticality of classification within these environments.
  • Classification Expertise: Knowledge of classification principles theories professional concepts and work methods of the job specialty with specific application to nuclear materials weapon production design/engineering and production processes
  • Certifications: Ability to complete the DOE Office of Classification General Overview Classification Course
  • Derivative Classifier/Reviewing Official: DOE certified Derivative Classifier/Reviewing Official (DC/RO) with 3-5 years experience in weapons materials weapon production weapon design/engineering production processes or other relevant fields
  • Problem-Solving & Collaboration: Excellent organizational and analytical skills strong problem-solving abilities and a proven capacity to complete work assignments through consultation collaboration and agreement with diverse teams including production operations and technical professionals
  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing to advise plant personnel project/program staff and senior leadership on complex classification matters

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712) which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
