The purpose of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group is to partner with the organisation to deliver digital and communications solutions that support effective policing service delivery and Polices strategic ambitions.
With a primary hub in Wellington and a presence throughout the country ICT delivers new and enhanced digital solutions both directly and through specialist vendor partnerships. The group provides expert advice on how technology can be leveraged to support Police strategy and works collaboratively to turn ideas into practical scalable outcomes.
The Technical Product Owner Collaboration is a member of the Corporate Products Group Productivity Collaboration & Content. This group brings together product teams responsible for:
- Collaboration
- Content Management
- Corporate Workflow
Together these teams deliver the core digital workplace capabilities that Police staff rely on every day to communicate collaborate automate work manage information and create content safely and efficiently.
The Technical Product Owner leads the development and ongoing evolution of Polices core digital workplace platforms. The role operates across a broad productivity portfolio and balances daytoday service reliability with longerterm product direction adoption and continuous improvement.
The key accountability of the role is to act as the technical conduit between customers vendors and delivery teams translating organisational needs into clear product vision roadmaps and delivery priorities. The Technical Product Owner ensures delivery activity remains aligned to agreed outcomes and organisational priorities.
The role is responsible for managing product backlogs and overseeing the delivery of enhancements maintenance and operational improvements. Success is measured through service performance user adoption and engagement customer satisfaction and the effective retirement of legacy capabilities where appropriate.
The Technical Product Owner provides delivery leadership to a product team including prioritisation of work coordination across dependencies and oversight of delivery progress. This role includes line management responsibilities and focuses on building team capability strengthening ways of working and fostering a healthy inclusive and outcomefocused team culture.
Strong engagement with stakeholders and customers is essential to ensure product priorities remain aligned with business goals and operational needs. The Technical Product Owner sets clear direction and priorities working with delivery leads and vendors to plan and deliver work in line with agreed roadmaps. The role maintains oversight of progress risks and dependencies and undertakes daytoday task management where required to support effective delivery.
In this role the Technical Product Owner provides product leadership across platforms and capabilities including but not limited to:
- Digital workplace and collaboration services including Microsoft 365
- Workflow automation and lowcode solutions using the Microsoft Power Platform
- Enterprise email services (Exchange Online) content and information management including backup and governance tooling such as AvePoint
- Creative and document productivity platforms including the Adobe product suite
- Platform adoption lifecycle management and vendor engagement
The Technical Product Owner champions a modern productled approach to delivering reliable secure and usercentred productivity services supported by clear planning datainformed decisionmaking and strong stakeholder relationships.
Key Accountabilities:
- Plan prioritise and execute work to meet agreed goals timelines and quality standards.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders ensuring clear communication and alignment.
- Ensure all activities comply with organisational policies legal requirements and best-practice standards identifying and managing risks proactively.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes systems or services and contribute to innovation and efficiency.
- Monitor performance maintain accurate records and provide timely reliable reports and advice to support decision-making.
- Contribute positively to team outcomes by sharing knowledge supporting colleagues and working collaboratively across functions.
- Maintain uptodate knowledge and skills relevant to the role and actively participate in learning and development opportunities.

To be successful in this role candidates will be able to demonstrate:
- Proven experience providing technical and product leadership across enterprise productivity or collaboration platforms.
- Experience leading coaching or developing people with a strong focus on team health capability uplift and delivery outcomes.
- A sound understanding of product management and agile delivery practices including backlog management and roadmap planning.
- Experience contributing to or leading structured planning cycles such as quarterly or multiincrement planning.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively across business technical and vendor environments.
- Welldeveloped analytical problemsolving and decisionmaking skills in complex and evolving contexts.
Experience working with collaboration platforms workflow automation or digital workplace tooling in large organisations will be highly advantageous.
