UK Business Development Director
Tractebel Engineering is a global engineering consultancy renowned for delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across the energy water infrastructure and sustainable development sectors.
The UK is a strategic market for Tractebel. Our activities focus on delivering decarbonisation and sustainability solutions supported by strong long-standing engineering expertise across the Nuclear and Renewables sectors. Our portfolio includes projects such as research reactor realisation life extension and support of existing power plants and the development of large-scale Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) as well as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
In addition Tractebel plays an active role in the gas and energy markets delivering projects related to Hydrogen Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Transmission & Distribution and conventional and renewable gas solutions. These services are delivered through our Business Area Gas Energy and Nuclear (BAGEN).

Your mission
The Business Development Director will play a pivotal role in defining advising on and executing strategies to engage clients prospects partners and key stakeholders across the UK Gas Energy and Nuclear sectors.
The role works in close collaboration with senior stakeholders across BAGEN to drive sustainable growth expand market presence and support Tractebels strategic ambitions in the Netherlands.
Who you are
Market & Competitive Intelligence
- Monitor market developments and analyse competitive landscapes within the UK Gas Energy and Nuclear sectors.
- Identify opportunities risks and emerging trends translating insights into actionable recommendations.
- Provide accurate uptodate market intelligence and datasets to Business Area and Country Management to support strategic decisionmaking.
- Proactively identify prioritise and pursue highvalue business opportunities aligned with Tractebels strategic objectives.
Account & Business Development Planning
- Build and maintain strong longterm relationships with clients partners and industry stakeholders.
- Develop and execute account plans for key clients in collaboration with Business Streams and Key Account Managers.
- Map stakeholder relationships within client organisations and identify engagement opportunities across multiple decisionmaking levels.
- Define and implement growth strategies to strengthen Tractebels market position.
- Work closely with business streams project teams sales and Métiers to ensure successful execution of business development initiatives.
- Strengthen business acumen within engineering teams by preparing and coaching them for structured valuedriven client engagements.
- Organise and facilitate strategic workshops and highlevel client discussions.
- Leverage and expand Tractebels national and international network to establish strategic partnerships and alliances.
EndtoEnd Development of Major Opportunities
- Lead the development and management of opportunity plans for major and complex projects.
- Present opportunity strategies to executive management and operational leadership for decisionmaking.
- Take ownership of socalled Cathedral opportunitieslarge highimpact and complex projectscovering the full lifecycle from early prospection through to contract award.
Cathedral opportunities typically involve highly complex engineering projects with capital expenditure ranging from several million to multiple billions of pounds.
- Ensure a comprehensive riskbased approach covering financial commercial environmental safety reputation and technical aspects.
- Prepare and deliver clear compelling strategic messages for executivelevel audiences.
- Contribute to the preparation of commercial offers technical positioning and budget definition for major projects.
- Drive innovation by promoting integrated technological solutions that anticipate client needs and adapt to evolving market and technology trends.
Brand Visibility & Representation
- Manage the business development budget for the United Kingdom.
- Strengthen Tractebels market visibility thought leadership and brand reputation in the United Kingdom.
- Act as a key Tractebel representative within sectoral and professional associations (e.g. NIA NI WNA etc).

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Engineering (MSc) or Industrial Sciences.
- Minimum 10 years experience within the energy and/or industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated track record in business development client relationship management and complex opportunity development within Gas Energy and/or Nuclear markets.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand client needs and translate them into compelling value propositions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to synthesise complex topics and engage Clevel and executive stakeholders.
- Proven capability to formulate strategic recommendations for senior business leadership and executive committees.
- High level of autonomy resilience and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder management negotiation and structured sales capabilities.
- Solid experience in market analysis strategic planning and CRM/business management tools.
- Proactive collaborative mindset able to operate effectively within a multicultural and international environment.
- Fluent English (written and spoken) / French is a bonus.
