Job Summary

SUMMARY: Working with the facilities team performs a variety of tasks in the repair servicing and general maintenance of the school physical plant and equipment. Extended knowledge of MEPs is required along with a willingness to support the team in day-to-day activities as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Troubleshoot install and repair basic electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot repair and maintain basic HVAC-related equipment.
  • Perform plumbing repairs on PVC copper steel and cast-iron piping; unclog drains and replace faulty valves as needed.
  • Employ basic carpentry skills using carpentry equipment including assembling furniture and utilizing basic framing concepts.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and safety rounds as assigned and log findings.
  • Paint and apply miscellaneous finishes as needed both interior and exterior.
  • Construct repair and maintain items such as furniture equipment partitions and other parts of the school buildings using hand and power tools following oral and written instructions.
  • Act as part of a team to set up and break down events as requested.
  • Assist in basic clean-up as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining space management and inventory systems.
  • Secure the campus each night by locking all doors and arming all buildings.
  • Plan and execute projects from start to finish.
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Positively contribute to the schoolwide community.
  • Communicate respectfully clearly and honestly in verbal electronic and written form with community members and maintain a sensitive cooperative and flexible demeanor in interactions.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through reliability punctuality and personal appearance and self-care and maintain personal integrity and a respectful attitude in all relationships and positively contribute to the school community.
  • Provide for the physical safety of children through the anticipation and removal of hazards and by appropriately responding to situations.
  • Follow all safety and security protocols and requirements personnel policies and the guidelines of the Emergency Response Plans and take responsibility for students safety in an emergency or drill.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to the satisfaction of the administration. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of experience with general buildings and grounds maintenance are required. Must possess a well-rounded background in facilities maintenance-related tasks and have a willingness to grow and expand knowledge base.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring engage in prolonged periods standing kneeling bending and climbing ladders or scaffolding; must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read analyze and interpret written documents professional literature and other material. Ability to write reports and letters. TECHNICAL SKILLS: High comfort level and proficiency with technology as a tool. Ability to use simple tools and machines such as copiers and laminators. Ability to use computers to write reports compose letters and emails create documents and communicate with parents.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and apply common sense and good judgment in dealing with everyday and emergency situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.
