Description

Launch Service Market Demand Expert reporting to the Head of Collective Launch Service support function within Strategy and Institutional Launches in the Directorate of Space Transportation (STS).


You will play a key role in shaping Europes space transportation strategy by delivering high quality data driven market intelligence.


In this position you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive launch service market demand assessments to provide the ESA Executive including D/STS and ESA Member States with a clear evidence based understanding of the institutional and commercial demand accessible to European launch service providers. Your work will be pivotal in anticipating market evolutions identifying demand segments of strategic relevance and supporting decision making relating to procurement planning programme design and long term space transportation development.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • monitoring and collecting information on worldwide space transportation demand including institutional commercial and emerging NewSpace segments to ensure continuous situational awareness of global launch needs;
  • identifying monitoring and analysing all information relevant to assessing the future launch service market demand that is realistically accessible to European launch service providers;
  • maintaining improving and expanding the ESA launch service market demand database - both historical records and forward looking forecasts - ensuring data quality coherence and analytical usability for internal and Member State reporting;
  • performing the yearly overall market demand assessment providing a comprehensive analysis of global demand key drivers market trends and indicators of accessible institutional and commercial opportunities for Europe in the coming years;
  • conducting ondemand analyses to support strategic planning procurement activities programme reviews and engagement with ESA Member States;
  • providing regular reporting and briefings on all developments events and trends relating to demand for space transportation services ensuring timely communication to management and stakeholders;
  • designing developing and maintaining ad hoc analytical tools and methods to respond to market demand-related requests including dashboards forecasting tools scenario models and launcher to payload demand matching instruments.

Technical competencies

Education and professional experience

A masters degree in engineering or a business discipline is required for this post together with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience.

Important Information and Disclaimer
In principle recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the masters degree the position may be filled at A1 level.

Applicants must be eligible to access information technology and hardware which is subject to European or US export control and sanctions regulations.

During the recruitment process the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Additionally successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment which will be conducted by an external background screening service in compliance with the European Space Agencys security procedures.

Note that ESA is in the process of transitioning to a Matrix setup which could lead to organisational changes affecting this position.
