Position: Civil Engineer

Division Roads and Highways

Location Cape Town / George

REPORTS TO

Section Manager and Function Manager

PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE

To provide design and drafting services prepare project documentation and deliver appropriate technical support as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for all design and modelling aspects within Roads & Highways realm from planning conceptual design to detailed design and construction drawings specific to Roads and Geometric etc.

Assist with supervising small teams (Technicians Students Draughtsmen Graduates)

Must be able to work in a team to support a leader but also take the lead on project designs.

Ensure that required drawing standards are maintained construction supervision and deliver excellent client service while being client facing.

Assist with compiling and the completion of tender documents and Bids.

Prepare reports required by the project implementation of all relevant codes of practice and ensuring that all work complies with SMECs quality control procedures

Support Senior Engineers on project management and take lead when required.

Develop understanding of Functional Unit technologies and markets

Apply SMECs quality systems and procedures and ensure enforcement

Working with clients and municipal line departments to capture their requirements

Develop specifications BoQs cost estimates and prepare final tender documentation.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor of Engineering degree/higher degree from accredited university/college

• Minimum 3 years of practical experience

• Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets

• Knowledge of basic project management and the use of project management software

• Maintain Quality and timelines of reporting

• Planning of workload to meet deadlines

• Proficiency in civil 3D design and analysis software packages such as Bentley MicroStation and Open Roads Design Software and /or AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D or similar
